Interpack Preview, Hall 10, Stall C44-1

The StorsackGroup sees itself as a trend-setter when it comes to packaging:

It offers tailor-made bulk packaging better known as Big Bags or FIBCs (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container) from the original idea up to the completion of the individual packaging solution. This has been the strategy of founder Thomas Noor from the beginning. In order to allow for this strategy even in the age of globalisation, he founded the Competence and Technology Centre Storsackeurea Technology GmbH in 2003. The aim of this centre is to develop new packaging solutions and new methods of production for packaging respectively. In Amir Samadijavan he found an experienced packaging expert to whom he committed this stragically important department.

According to tradition, the StorsackGroup will present its latest developments at the Interpack. The motto of the Interpack this year will be “Traditional yet Modern”.

Laser Bag

Big Bag production without sewing machine, a mere vision? No, it is no vision but reality. When the StorsackGroup started manufacturing Big Bags with the aid of laser welding technique, nobody was able to imagine that already three years later the first prototypes would be available. This globally unique technique revolutionises the production of Big Bags: an absolutely leak-proof container and no holes which need to be sealed up through special sealing materials (filler cord, fleece, etc.). The first test results with various customers were positive, even when using the finest filling materials. Tests based on norms for conventional Big Bags were positive as well. The main strength of this unique Big Bag is the excellent leak tightness of the welded seams which is especially important for the transport of fine powders like carbon black or various other materials.

In 2004 the production method was awarded a price at the 27. Deutscher Verpackungswettbewerb (German Packaging Award) in the category „transport packaging“. In the world-wide contest the method could convince the jury as well and received the highest award “Worldstar”.

Smart Drum

Collapsible drums for fluid or paste-like bulk materials have always been demanded by the chemical and food industry. At the same time this was a challenge for every packaging developer. The StorsackGroup wanted to respond to this demand and developed a collapsible, reusable system consisting of a so-called drum-family in 5 sizes ranging from 30/60/120/150/220 litres. Target group is the food industry as well as partitions of the chemical industry. This ingenious packaging system consists of an inner liner for the bulk material and an external sack, in which hollow polypropylene panels are incorporated as strengthening elements. The outer sack is made of Polypropylene fabric, the material of the inner liner depends on the bulk material. Basically, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Multilayer or aluminium coated foils are suitable materials. While the outer sack and the strengthening elements (which make up approximately 90 per cent of the material used) are transported back folded together and are then reused, the inner liner is only used once. Afterwards, it is recycled substantially or energetically. This concept offers the advantage of drastically reducing empty return transports. The one-off use of the inner liner avoids costly rinsing and cleaning activities.

The Smart Drum is especially suitable for bulk goods like e.g. fruit juice concentrates, ketchup, colours, mortar, viscous dispersions or chemicals for the leather industry.

Track Bag

It sounds futuristic, however at Storsack it is the state-of-the-art: the RFID Label Systems for guaranteed future. Here, every Big Bag is provided with an RFID-label. This label consists mainly of a microchip for data storage and an antenna for the transmission of data to a corresponding reader. The data transfer between the RFID-label and the reader takes place contact-free. New is the combination of different frequencies in a so-called hybrid-tag named BBT (Big Bag Tag) which makes a worldwide use of this chip possible. The new tag system also allows for a data transfer of up to five metres. Together with its supplier, the StorsackGroup offers a complete one-shop system. Thus, customers can be assured that the different components of the system are compatible for each respective application. Furthermore, the group offers competent service from the initial project phase up to the implementation and integration into existing logistic software systems as e.g. SAP.

The Track Bag is the ideal and timely solution for the central topic of the food and pharmaceutical industry: batch tracing according to the European regulation EU 178/2002 which has become effective on 1st January 2005. According to EU 178/2002, all participants in a supply chain must make their process chain transparent from the manufacturing of the products up to the packing. Thus, batch tracing belongs to the most important topics of the food and animal feed industry as well as the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Without knowing which batch was produced how and by whom, a modern production is no longer thinkable. This trend has also been recognised by the biggest Big Bag manufacturer. As a consequence, StorsackGroup strongly invested into the future through the foundation of an RFID department and the introduction of the Track Bag.

Further advantages of the RFID technology:

• Increase of productivity through automatic acquisition of data

• Cost savings due to less work

• Competitive edges through improved quality control

“Super Light” Pallet

This is a Big Bag with an integrated pallet. It can be handled with a conventional elevating truck (forklift as well as Ameise).

Background: Big Bags without pallet or the so-called Pallet-less-Bags are offered by various companies. All these models are handled exclusively with forklifts. For this, the Big Bags are usually provided with lateral cut-outs (slots and similar systems). The disadvantage, however, is that only few trucks and small companies respectively have a forklift which makes the loading and unloading of the Big Bags impossible. For this reason these systems have not become widely accepted.

An alternative is the Super Light Pallet from StorsackGroup. The system is simple but very clever. Only in very rare cases have there been objections to the use of this system from the customers’ side. This pallet is especially suitable for the use in food producing companies. In this industry a wooden pallet is a potential source of bacterial contamination or mould. For this reason, the wooden pallets often need to be heat treated for sterilisation. The problem can only be solved through the use of plastic pallets. However, conventional K-pallets are more expensive and often lead to malodour as they are mostly made out of recycled plastics.

The Super Light Pallet only has advantages:

• No bacterial contamination, no mould

• Very light, approx. 5 kg and thus very efficient, a wooden pallet or plastic pallet weighs between 20 and 25 kg

• The pallet can be adjusted individually to the respective Big Bag

• The pallet can be combined with the Big Bag either provisionally or permanently.

The products mentioned so far can be viewed at our stall at the Interpack. Moreover, further exhibits of the StorsackGroup will be displayed:

• Conductive/antistatic types (Type C, D and D Plus)

• Valve Bag for an airfree filling of the Big Bag

• Big Bag with an automatically closing skirt

• Formstable Big Bag

• System for automatic and dustfree filling and discharging of Big Bags.

And much more.
