Metal Detectors ‘See’ Parts Molded From New

DuPont™ Delrin® Grade

Geneva, January 2008 -- New DuPont™ Delrin® 400MTD acetal resin aims to open up more applications in food processing conveyors. Made with a proprietary metal filler, it can be detected by most metal-sensing equipment in the unlikely event of a part’s entry into the process stream.

The new resin shares attributes of Delrin® that have led to a wide range of applications in other kinds of conveyors. Thanks to its low wear and friction, conveyor parts made of Delrin® typically require little or no lubrication. Conveyors using Delrin® instead of metal for parts such as chains, belt links and other components can use less energy, make less noise

and last longer.

Delrin® 400MTD delivers a combination of mechanical properties highly suitable for conveyor components. It maintains the typical acetal features of strength and stiffness, with minimal effects on impact and elongation. This resin complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration Regulation 21- CFR-177.2470 and may be used as articles or components of articles intended for contact on a repeated use basis, for all food types except those containing more than 15 percent alcohol, up to 250ºF contact temperature.
