The Bolz-Summix® “Ultimo” Inflatable Seal Ball Segment Valve

Are you facing the following problems?

• Production lost due to downtime time caused by an outlet or inlet valve defect?

• Quality differences due to variation in process conditions?

• Jamming of the valve movement in your process?

• Excessive wear and tear of valve seals?

• Mechanical damage to your valve due to unacceptable rotation forces?

• A layer of hardened or crusted material forming over the outlet valve?

Then Bolz-Summix® presents the “Ultimo” valve which starts where other valves stop, or dare not go!!

On process vessels and reactors, the outlet & inlet connections along with their valves are very critical items. Where the highest demands for flow, sealing, vacuum and pressure tightness, along with good cleanability are required, the design, and final selection for valves, material, seals and drive unit will be defined considering the actual process conditions, and available time for preventive and periodical maintenance.

Clearance for each valve creates a dead spot; this is minimized when using a ball-segment valve due to its spherical shape when processing powders. When a process however passes through different stages such as: liquid, paste, powder there is a reasonable chance that the product will inevitably form a layer on the valve surface that will harden or develop into a crust.

The Bolz-Summix® “Ultimo” Valve breaks the crust!

The Bolz-Summix® modular design of the ball-segment valve is an elevated Ball segment, capable to be (vertically raised and lowered).

This “Ultimo” movement joins together with our “full inflatable” seal delivering the innovative solution for these common process problems.

The valve no longer only moves in a circular motion, but combines this motion and vertical movement of the segment by pneumatic operation.

Before product discharging or loading begins, the inflatable seal deflates and retracts into the valve body out of the product flow path. The pneumatic actuator then vertically lowers the ball segment by 15 mm. This single operating movement will break the crust or hardened layer that has formed over the segment head of the valve. This now gives unimpeded rotation of the segment over its normal 90 degree opening turn. The Full-bore opening can be optionally opened, proportionally to the process requirement demand.

The Bolz-Summix® “Ultimo” design delivers the following benefits:

• Eliminates problems to open and close the valve in spite of crusted or hardened product layer formation over the valve segment.

• The technology of an inflatable seal (no mechanical product contact when moving)

• Valve is product universal applicable using powders, liquids and slurries.

• Valve is process universal applicable for atmospheric, vacuum and pressure conditions.

• Free flowing powders will, with retracted segment, discharge in a controlled way.

• Excellent and variable levels of CIP options integrated into the valve.

The closing sequence of the valve is a reversed movement.

A normal standard option is the use of a two-step rotation cylinder. Besides the 90-degree rotation this cylinder is capable to move another 90 degrees (180 degrees in total). By this movement the total segment will reach out of its housing. This position allows access to the entire ball segment should inspection cleaning or service is required.
