Railcar Unloaders - Drive Over (low profile)

Posted in: , on 24. Aug. 2006 - 22:37

Can anyone direct me to manufacturers of low profile mechanical railcar unloading equipment (under rail) for bottom dump 100 ton railcars, carrying 2 inch minus coal. Capacity of 4 railcars per hour. Due to soil conditions, a conventional bottom dump hopper c/w belt feeders is too deep. Looking for something in the 5 ft area, if possible.

Thank You

Short of buying a car spotter and using the car spotter to pull the cars over an elevated trestle combined with a car vibrator with an apron feeder undeneath it feeding a belt you will not find much.

A "Car Hoe" is another option but it will not fill your dumping needs unless you have them paired feeeding a plough conveyor under your drop points- a plough conveyor will fit under your raill cars-but you will need at least four of them to fullfill your desired dumping rate with them feeding another take away plough conveyor.

B&W Samson Feeder - Rail Car Unloader

Dear Sir

I spotted your thread an think we can be of assistance.

I represent B&W Machanical Handling Limited based in the UK, we are a member of the world know Aumund Group

www.bwmech.co.uk

www.aumund.com

We are the manufactures of a unique apron belt feeder called the Samson Feeder, this is 3 metre wide unit, meaning for rail car unloading you can significantly reduce the pit depth.

We currently have under rail units unloading coal and various other materials.

I feel your 5ft pit depth may be a little hard to acheive considering 100 tonne rail cars are to be used, however i'm sure we can provide you with the best possible solution.

I would appriciate more informtion regarding this project so we can study and provide you with a budget proposal that suits your application and requirements.

Please email any information to sales@bwmech.co.uk

Kind Regards

Hi WSM

We had this application before.

What we did is put a belt feeder under a shallow trough under the rail.

We then opened the doors of the bottom dump rail cars.

The secret is to use the rail car volume as an extension to the trough volume instead of dropping the lot into a hopper below, as this would have taken too much depth.

It works very well

Good luck
