Are explosion doors required for baghouses/filter receivers? What if the units have an explosion suppression system (i.e. detector and extinguisher)? Is there guidance in code somewhere? Thanks.

If used in conjunction with a combustible dust filter units need to be "safe". If there is a potential for an explosion then there needs to be protection.

What type of protection is required frequently depends on the actual installation. Explosion relief panels/doors are usually the most cost effective solution, however they need to vent into a safe ares, not blasting a fireball into a working area. If there is no safe area to vent into then supression will be required.

Don't forget to consider propogation along ducts connected to the filter.

Relieve the pressure of an explosion is the basic protection, you can use self reclosing device as a explosion door or non reclosing device as a rupture disc. Mainly diference is the price, but also the efficience of venting normally rupture disc are more eficience near to 100%, explosion doors are low efficience, depents on manufacturer.

But Explosion door are perfect for combustible, because an explosion you can have a fire and this fire can destroy the equipment. Witn explosion door the oxigen does not enter again into the vessel and fire is more easy to control and extinguissing.

Use explosion door with coal, or wood, etc..

With flour and cereals use rupture disc.
