‘Transforming process efficiency with on-line analysis’ –

Malvern® Instruments expert to present at Euromin ’07

27 September 2007: Malvern, UK: The economic gains delivered by on-line particle size analysis will be highlighted by David Pugh, Process Marketing Manager for Malvern® Instruments in his presentation at Euromin ’07, to be held on 27-28 November in London (UK). The focus of his talk will be an industrial case study – the switch from off- to on-line particle size analysis at HIM (Derbyshire, UK), a specialist hard mineral processing company. It will include a detailed examination of the economic case for investment and the benefits that ensued.

Through the installation of on-line particle size analysis and automated control, using the Insitec® system from Malvern Instruments, HIM has realized economic benefits in excess of those originally cited to justify the initial capital expenditure. Product quality has been transformed, allowing the company to adopt bulk product transfer and to access new markets. Throughput has increased by 60%. Experience in terms of installation, commissioning, consistency of off- and on-line data and instrument reliability has been overwhelmingly positive.

Euromin is an annual gathering of leaders of the industrial minerals sector. This year high-profile speakers from throughout Europe will address topics relating to the environment, processing challenges, changing legislation and industry economics. Euromin ’07 will also incorporate the inaugural Industrial Minerals Annual Awards, designed to recognize excellence in the sector.

Malvern Instruments is a global company that develops, manufactures and markets advanced analytical systems used in characterizing a wide variety of materials, from bulk powders to the latest nanomaterials and delicate macromolecules. Innovative technologies and powerful software produce systems that deliver industrially relevant data enabling customers to make the connection between micro (eg particle size) and macro (bulk) material properties ( rheology ) and chemical composition ( chemical imaging ). Malvern laboratory, on-line and in-line solutions are proven in sectors from cement to pharmaceuticals and support the understanding, improvement and optimization of many industrial processes.
