DBT at Longwall USA 2007

At Longwall USA 2007 – to be held June 5 to 7 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh, PA – DBT again presents cutting-edge innovations for underground mining productivity.

The EL62, DBT’s latest high-powered shearer ranging arm, puts even more muscle into the arm of DBT’s latest shearer, the Electra® EL2000, which is designed for low to medium seams from about 55 to 138” (1.4 to 3.5 m). The compact EL62 offers cutting power of up to 1005 hp (750 kW) per arm.

DBT’s ‘Reisshaken®`+ – or baseplate plow – is suitable for extremely thin seams as low as 23” (0.6 m). At Longwall USA 2007, DBT is exhibiting its latest model complete with line pans and special shields. The special plow roof support is one of the lowest-profile roof supports on the market with a closed height of only 550 mm.

PF 6 robot-welded hybrid line pans combine the benefits of welded and cast pans to address the key issue of wear by making the component subject to most wear replaceable. The patented PF 6 has a 1” (25 mm) baseplate onto which the top race is welded. Robot welding ensures standard high-quality welds that can be removed when the top trough is worn out, allowing quick and economical replacement of the trough and tripling anticipated service life of the baseplate. This high-performance face conveyor can handle up to 8818 tons/hour (8 000 tonnes/hour) over up to1650 ft (500 m).

Able to lift and carry 50 tons (45.4 tonnes) 60” (1524mm) from the fork face, the capacity of the VT 650 shield hauler is unparalleled by any other battery-powered shield hauler on the market. The machine offers quiet, clean performance from two 50 hp (37 kW) dual-field DC motors developing up to 97,450 lbs (44,197 kg) of tractive effort. A Control Stick gives simple, intuitive control over steering and all functions, while the unique tri-section frame offers greater maneuverability and superior traction. The VT 650 battery pack has a capacity of 2000 Ah, allowing over 800 tons (726 tonnes) to be moved per battery charge.

DBT CEMA-E LW Series rolls challenge competitor products in both Room & Pillar and longwall applications by meeting criteria including faster order fulfillment, higher reliability, longer life, lower life-cycle costs and easy retrofit. The new roll has a patent-pending lubrication system called Idler PAL® (Positive Automatic Lubrication). A spring-loaded compensator disk allows grease expansion when hot and compresses grease as the bearing cools. The tapered roller bearing retention method positions the bearing and ensures consistent reproducible end play. In an industry first, each roll is triple tested and engraved with a unique identifier. Special adapters make retrofitting to competitor’s frames just as easy as fitting to DBT frames.

The patent-pending Power Chain helps achieve more cost-effective removal of mined coal by providing high-reliability, high-availability transportation with design features ensuring low wear and long service life. The arc-shaped wide cross-section of the flight bars allows a low-profile line pan, while the special shape of the chain provides a large running surface where required, drastically reducing surface pressure and chain-joint wear. The method for attaching the flight bar is patented. The Power Chain 42 x 140 (on display) has a breaking force of 2370 kN, the Power Chain 52 x 175 of 3610 kN.
