Lödige at the IFAT – May 05-09, 2014 – Munich Exhibition Centre
Innovative Oil Recovery from Plastic Waste
Innovative pyrolysis processes for recovering oil from plastic waste set the tone on this year’s IFAT presence of Gebr. Lödige Maschinenbau GmbH (Stand No. A4.519).
As a manufacturer of specialized reactor solutions, Lödige has significantly advanced the development of this new technology. Two pilot projects are being implemented at industrial state currently:
Since the beginning of the year, a specialized company operating throughout Europe is using a pyrolysis process for processing plastic fluff coming from the car recycling. This waste – that had to be disposed of otherwise – can now be processed in a two-step, batch process under normal pressure to obtain recyclable oil: in the first reaction step the bulk density of the fluff is thermally compacted by a factor 5-10. In the second reaction step installed downstream, a catalytic pyrolysis is performed to obtain recovery of oil. The heating of this reactor is carried out at input temperatures of 500°C by using a salt melt.
Another company is recovering oil from recycled plastic in high quantity. The catalytic pyrolysis is performed in a quasi-continuous process, again under normal pressure. For this purpose, this customer operates with a Lödige Reactor. The electric heating of nearly 2 MW heats the machine walls up to 700°C. The product temperature is approx. 500°C in case of this application.
As for all machines and systems supplied by Lödige, these new reactors for pyrolysis have been designed according to the specific needs of the customer and manufactured in Paderborn, Germany. The Lödige technology is used worldwide for processing solids, granulates, powders, dust, paste and sludge.
