Global Minerals Technology Center Becomes First Tenant at View72

Office park will be largest Class A LEED-certified in the state

Spencer Eccles Jr., Midvale Mayor Seghini tout economic development successes

Midvale, UT, USA, Sept. 29, 2010 - FLSmidth (pronounced “F.L. Smit”), the world’s leading supplier of equipment and services to the minerals and cement industries, officially opened their new global minerals technology center today in the View72 Corporate Center in Midvale City. FLSmidth is the first tenant to occupy this 220-acre development. With over one million square feet of space, View72 is expected to be the largest LEED-certified office park in the state.

Headquartered in Denmark, FLSmidth has locations in 40 countries on five continents. FLSmidth consolidated all of its Utah operations, and relocated a number of personnel from the company’s Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Richmond, California and Wales, Wisconsin offices into the new location, which will be home to almost 400 engineers, technicians and support staff, as well as state-of-the art laboratories, and research & development capabilities.

The ceremony featured Spencer P. Eccles, executive director of the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED), Midvale Mayor JoAnn B. Seghini, as well as FLSmidth President & CEO Jørgen Huno Rasmussen, Minerals Division CEO Christian Jepson and Vice President of Minerals Processing and the Americas Peter Flanagan.

Others in attendance included: Dale Carpenter, economic development director for Salt Lake County; Gardner Company President Kem Gardner and CEO Christian Gardner; FLSmidth employees and customers; and Midvale police and firefighters.

“When a global leader like FLSmidth chooses Utah as its U.S. quarters, it’s no accident,” said Eccles. “We work hard to create a positive atmosphere in which companies can flourish; a place where they can find great employees, grow their business, and have a high quality of life. We are honored to welcome the FLSmidth team to the county and to our state."

According to FLSmidth’s Flanagan, the company selected Utah for several key reasons:

-Key partnerships: FLSmidth works closely with the University of Utah Metallurgical and Mining Departments to test products and train students for future positions within the company and industry.

-Location: View72’s sustainability features support the company’s commitment to doing business in the most responsible way possible. The Salt Lake Valley is close to major transportation arteries and conveniently located near many of the major U.S., Canadian and Mexican mining projects—the company’s target market.

-Lifestyle and business climate: Utah is regularly ranked as one of the top areas in the country for entrepreneurship, business friendliness, health, recreation, education, and other quality of life factors.

-Strategic customers: Rio Tinto Kennecott Utah Copper is one of FLSmidth’s largest and most important customers in the area. Kennecott serves as a living laboratory, allowing FLSmidth direct access to a constant flow of critical customer input, and providing a showcase for new customers.

“This is a great day for FLSmidth,” continued Flanagan. “Through Utah-based businesses like EIMCO, CEntry, Dawson and Summit Valley Engineering that we have brought into the FLSmidth family, our roots in this community go back well over a hundred years. By centralizing our global minerals processing operations on this site, we are building a legacy of making smart business decisions, supporting the local economy, and serving as good stewards of the land. This is definitely a winning proposition for everyone involved.”
