Sioux Steel Company – Dust Suppression Hopper

Sioux Steel Co., of Sioux Falls, SD, is the United States distributor and manufacturer of the Dust Suppression Hopper from DSH Systems, Ltd. of New Zealand. The Dust Suppression Hopper was invented almost a decade ago by a millwright named Trevor Schwass from a small town in New Zealand. A local fertilizer plant was having extreme problems controlling dust from his plant that specialized in urea and potash. A vision in the middle of the night and, a number of prototypes later, the Dust Suppression Hopper was born.

Although originally invented for dust control in fertilizer, the Dust Suppression Hopper has also become a cost-saving and effective solution for the transferral of stock foods, sugar, salt, small grains, DDG, sand and many other dry, granular goods. It is especially effective where dust explosions may be a concern. DSH Hoppers are available in rotational molded plastic, carbon steel, stainless steel or food-grade stainless steel depending on the application.

Hundreds of these hoppers have been running successfully in New Zealand and Australia for years with DSH Systems Ltd. winning the Dust Control Technology: Application or Practice Award, Australian Bulk Handling Awards in 2007 and the Innovative Technology Award, Australian Bulk Handing Awards in 2006. Now that these hoppers have become available in the U.S., companies such as Cargill, ADM, Mosaic and C&H Sugar have started to implement them into their facilities.
