B&W Stormajor™ handles Holcim fuels in Morocco

A B&W Stormajor™ Radial Boom Stacker has been commissioned by Holcim (Maroc) S.A. to manage its 40,000 tonne coal and petroleum coke stockpile at its Port of Jorf Lasfar fuel handling facility in Morocco. The need to have the flexibility to create irregular stockpile shapes and the difficulty this would create for a fixed plant system led the customer to seek a solution from the world renowned supplier of mobile port loading and unloading equipment, B&W Mechanical Handling Ltd based in Ely, UK. The lack of any Planning Permission requirement was another factor that weighed heavily in favour of mobile plant.

B&W enjoys the benefits of being fully integrated into the substantial and respected International Aumund Group with strategically placed offices in more than 10 countries and representatives in over 40.

The Stormajor™ represents a unique concept in Bulk Materials Handling, since it combines the benefits of the well known Samson™ feeder design with a Radial slew and luffing outloading boom conveyor into a single mobile machine, able to receive material both from tipping trucks and loading shovels. At Port of Jorf Lasfar the Stormajor™ is capable of loading rates up to 600 tonnes per hour and is in operation 24 hours per day. The unit receives loads every 2 minutes from 17 tonne capacity tipping trucks and can also intake from 6 tonne capacity wheel loaders. For tipping truck deliveries the buffer holding capacity of the integral Samson™ receiving unit allows even faster truck unloading allowing a high average rate to be maintained even taking into account delays in positioning the vehicles.

Equipped with a 23 metre outloading boom, the Stormajor™ forms a stockpile in excess of 12 metres high. The boom slewing facility of plus/minus 30 degrees together with the total mobility of the unit enables the formation of infinitely variable stockpile profiles to suit end user needs. The unit is completely self contained having an on-board 150 kVA Diesel generator set powering a hydraulic power pack to drive the belt, slewing and luffing operations. The unit is mounted on rubber tyres for easy towable relocation; a truck access ramp that is integral to the machine is hinged for stowing during movement.

In addition to stockpiling the B&W Stormajor™ also demonstrates its versatility by providing equally flexible solutions for both barge and rail wagon loading applications. Available with a range of specialised features tailored for each application, the B&W Stormajor™ is a universal bulk loader that offers high handling rates within a compact integrated design.”

B&W are pleased to announce that due to the success of this contract, they have recently received an order for a near identical Stormajor™ from Holcim’s neighbours, Ciments De L'Atlas, who are also located at the Port of Jorf Lasfar in Morocco.
