Continuous Constant Feed of Pulverised Coal with the IM PACT-HI System

The author reviews the problems associated with the constant feed of pulverised coal for combustion systems. The IMPACT-HI system from Sankyo Dengyo is presented and is considered in the light of alternative systems. Several years have passed since coal was again considered a better alternative energy source to fast-depleting oil reserves. The author has devoted his life to the cement industry where he tried various original methods of feeding pulverized coal at a constant rate. In the past few years, many such methods have been implemented in rapid succession.

Sankyo Dengyo Co., Ltd. has manufactured and installed a number of IMPACT-HI systems. Modified versions are included in constant feed systems. They are in service in various fields including cement mills, other ceramic works, non-ferrous metal refining processes, chemical and steelmaking industries. Most of them have been installed in Japan, but some have also been exported. The total number of systems now in use is estimated to be several hundred.
