Speed of packet which is in transition between two conveyors of varying speed

Hello,

I am trying to calculate the speed of a packet (Let's say length x m), which is transiting from conveyor 1 (speed u m/s) to conveyor 2 (speed v m/s).

Initially, when the packet starts crossing the conveyor1, its speed is same as that of conveyor1, but at what stage does it acquires the speed of conveyor2?

If there is any mathematical formula, or paper(s) to calculate the same, do share it.

I am trying to calculate the speed of packet (x m in length), which is in transition from conveyor 1 (u m/s) to conveyor 2(v m/s).

Any mathematical formula or paper to calculate the same?

Hello,

Packet of mass M moving at velocity v1 lands on belt maving at velocity v2. Due to inertia, the packet cannot change its velocity instantly, but will be sliding on receiving belt at velocity v2 - v1 at the instant of dropping. So packet will be subjected to accelerating force due to friction grip between packet and belt. This friction grip force = (mu) x M x g. Accordingly its acceleration would be (mu) x M x g / M = (mu) x g. So you can find out time = (v2 - v1) / acceleration.

I have taken simple case of the packet dropping from one belt to another belt and not in contact with 2 belts simultaneously. This now you may be able to solve it. During transition phase, the accelerating force will gradually increase till the entire mass comes on the receiving belt and then the accelerating force will be constant.
