K 2013 Düsseldorf – the world’s premier trade fair for the plastics and rubber industries

For nearly 60 years, K Düsseldorf has been synonymous with the world’s foremost meeting place for the plastics and rubber industries. K is the hub for making global contacts, not only among machinery builders and raw material producers or with processors, but also with potential customers from key user sectors. Every three years, experts in automotive engineering, packaging, electrical engineering, electronics and communications, construction, medical technology and aerospace are offered a unique opportunity to see the latest applications for plastics and rubber. K 2010 drew well over 220,000 trade visitors from all continents, who came to view for themselves the wide array of technical innovations. They all made use of the opportunities presented by K, because even in our era of e-mail, Internet, data transfers at lightning speed and global communications, a trade fair like K has in no way become redundant. Quite the contrary – as products, systems and processes grow increasingly complex and beg for explanation, one-on-one dialogue between suppliers and buyers becomes ever more vital.

K 2010 was clearly marked by the positive market trend after the worldwide economical and financial crisis and made for an excellent mood amongst the 3,100 exhibitors from more than 50 countries. Companies reported an overwhelming volume of promising new customer contacts, a marked willingness amongst trade visitors to invest and many, also sometimes quite spontaneous, business deals.

57% of the 222,000 K visitors came from outside Germany; a total of some 132,000 guests were of foreign origin. The experts came from far more than 100 nations and all continents. 62% of all visitors represented top and middle management but the percentage of visitors with a say in the purchasing and sourcing decisions of their companies was even higher: by own accounts 60% of all visitors were involved in a decisive or co-decisive capacity, 19% held an advisory position.

Next K in Düsseldorf will be staged in 2013, from 16 to 23 October. The exhibits will once again be clearly organised according to four product categories:

•Raw materials, auxiliaries

•Semi-finished products, technical parts and reinforced plastic products

•Machinery and equipment as well as

•Services

The clear structure in the layout of the Düsseldorf fairgrounds ensures that every visitor will be able to make their way without detour to the exhibitors corresponding to their professional interests.

K 2013 is continuing where the thoroughly successful 2010 fair left off, for it is obvious that all big-name companies of the international plastics and rubber industry will be taking part in their flagship fair. The demand for stand space has risen sharply, and numerous exhibitors will make a bigger impact at the fair. All 19 halls of Düsseldorf’s fairgrounds will be fully occupied.

For Werner M. Dornscheidt, President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, the big interest from the entire sector confirms K Düsseldorf’s outstanding status. “K 2013 will give us a complete overview of the changing world market, and we can look forward to a multitude of impressive innovations. We know that many of our exhibitors are already working flat out on their new products and presentations. Düsseldorf will be a powerful source of inspiration for the plastics and rubber world!”

Some 3,000 exhibiting companies will be participating in K 2013 from 16 to 23 October and presenting their offers to the global trade attendees. Suppliers from Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and the USA will again be particularly strongly represented, while the number of Asian manufacturers from China, India, Japan, Korea and Taiwan has risen.

“K makes the difference” – the motto of the upcoming event says it all. K Düsseldorf is a trend barometer and innovation forum for the entire sector, with the latest developments and optimized technologies being premiered here every three years. Company exhibits will be supplemented by a special show entitled “Plastics move the world”. This is where aspects of the theme of mobility will be taken up – everything from lightweight design in the construction of vehicles, aircraft and ships, to individual mobility and modern leisure behaviour.

An international trade fair of this calibre can only be successfully staged when set in the right environment, with the appropriate fairgrounds and infrastructure. Messe Düsseldorf is offering K 2013 exhibitors 19 modern halls with a total exhibition space of 263,000 sq. m. gross, very close to the airport and city center. All exhibition halls are built at ground level, which makes for rapid construction and dismantling, even of large exhibits – a cost saving for exhibitors – and guarantees visitors consistent ease of access. With shuttle buses to the air-conditioned halls and covered walkways five meters above ground connecting the halls, the weather cannot interfere with a visit to the fair. State-of-the-art communications are as much part of the service infrastructure as banks, shopping arcades, travel agency, document and translation services, restaurants and relaxation areas for visitors.

The international expertise acquired by Messe Düsseldorf in matters of service excellence is in no small part attributable to its global presence. A far-reaching network of 65 subsidiaries and foreign representative offices provides exhibitors and visitors with local contacts.
