If the material to be handled is corrosive to steel tube then rubberised or plastic coated rollers are used (carrying as well as return or only return). Rubberised or plastic coated rollers are used in chemical plants manufacturing acids and alkalies (where environment happens to be corrosive in nature).

Rubberised return idlers are also used when handling sticky bulk materials. The rubber being flexible surface, it is anti clogging and remains clean (mud cannot remain stuck to rotating tyres for more than few minutes).
