Sodium Sulphate Silo - Flow Problems

Posted in: , on 12. Mar. 2013 - 16:29

Hello all,

Sodium sulphate is a bulk raw material that gives us intermittent flow issues, especially in discharging from our silos. Any suggestions on what to check and what data to collect, and from there I hopefully can proceed?

Typical values of material received from our supplier:

BD = 1200 - 1600 g/L (average 1450 g/L)

Moisture content = 0.15 wt %

DFR = 50 ml/s

Mean particle diam = approx. 150 micron.

Any and all suggestions and advice on how to proceed are welcome.

Thanks

Sodium sulphate is hygroscopic in nature and it is not unusual for this material to cake in silo. There could be a number reasons for caking i.e. Silo geometry, silo outlet size, silo discharger, Ambient conditions, Day night temperature difference. etc etc.

Since it could be a number of reasons for caking you need to provide above mentioned information for a proper assessment.
