Maximum Size of Coal Storage Silo

We need information from the Hon. members of this forum about references for Biggest Coal silo installation. We know dome storage is excellent proposal, but due to shortage of stockpile area/backup area near berth, client can not go for Dome type of structure and can go vertical up to 70-80 m. We need references about single biggest coal silo (cylindrical shape or other shapes).

"......references for Biggest Coal silo installation." Almost translates into 'Take me to the cleaners, please'.

This one gets more entertaining by the week. What sort of client specified this sort of port facility without a clue? You're going to get swamped with offers...they've all built their biggest...and why not?

On the one hand there is no room, we don't know the available area so we can't advise there. We aren't even told the bunker capacity which would be helpful for a start. However he sanctions an 80m lift.

It behooves to ask how this levitation will be enacted for the quantities of coal, coke ,or whatever, envisaged for the project?

Did the client ever examine the normal Indian solution of rapid loading of big long trains? Sorry, but considering the tonnages and distance it seems a worthwhile option to the impending troubles.

Anyway, the little respected NCB used to have a design standard for Staple Shaft Bunkers. The booklet (orange covers) makes copious reference to basalt liners in the spiral chute. Maybe Kallenborn or Greenbank can take you further because the NCB is now well defunct and my copy is hiding in the attic and probably eaten away in parts. Your guy is talking about sending coal 70m down. Beware of moist coal blocking the slipway and falling directly down. You really need to talk to Kallenborn or Greenbank.

Dear Anil,

The biggest coal storage silos are the twin silos at the Lünen Power plant in Germany. Each containing 100,000 m3 of coal, with an internal diameter of 55 m. The coal storage silo solution is providing you the maximum storage capacity on a minimal footprint. These coal silos have been designed and supplied by ESI Eurosilo. More information can be found at the website www.eurosilo.com. If you send us your contact details, we can advise you more specific based on your project requirements.

Dear louispanjang, Thanks for your advise. Problem in India, is that private port operators in India bid/ take berth from Govt. Port Authorites and bid highest amount for sharing with port authorities without looking various technical points like-whether, there is enough area for stockpiling, area for evacuation of bulk material, facilities like wagon/truck loading. This is an existing berth with very less area for stockpiling of coal. One of the major problems in India, the end user never evacuate the coal/take deliveries with in stipulated time. This is the main reason going for vertical not horizontal.

Regards, Anil

Maximum Size Of Coal Storage Silo

To elevate the coal to the highest silo you may want to consider a DSI Snake Sandwich high angle conveyor. I built a J. A. Dos Santos Sandwich belt system that elevated coal 76 meters up to a silo. Other units were built with even higher lifts, up to 175 meters.
