Technology for converting FGD Gypsum in to Gypsum Boards

At present about 25-30 million/sq m of Gypsum Boards are being imported from countries like--UAE, CHINA, FAR EAST due to higher demand the imports will go up to 50-60 sqm/y with in next 2-3 years. Raw material/natural gypsum is also being imported from countries like-IRAN, OMAN, PAKISTAN ect. The main reason behind these imports are as follows--

1. Quality of raw Gypsum (mined gypsum) is not good and the price for the same is about US $ 12--15/t OR Rupees 600 /t (at source mainly in Rajastahan with 55-60% purity). The price of raw gypsum is increasing day by day.Due to higher price of raw material, logistic cost/fuel charges and impurity of raw gypsum, setting up a Gypsum Board plant is not viable.

2. By using alternative material--Phospho Gypsum as a raw material (from Fertliser plants) which is in abundance is not recommended because of some environmental/health problems.

3. Another option for raw material is FGD gypsum (from coal based power plants). Using FGD GYPSUM as a raw material for producing Gypsum Boards can be seen as a future raw material but the problem is that in India, technologies for converting flue gases in to FGD gypsum not available. We are presenting a paper during seminar where our main topic is -HOW TO MAKE BEST USE OF FLY ASH which is available at very very low price. We would like to discuss during seminar about possibilities for using FGD gypsum and Technologies available.

We are inviting Consulting companies, equipment suppliers, turn key contractors to share their experience about recovery of FGD GYPSUM FROM FLUE GASES.
