Pneumatic Thrower

Dear all,

I am designing a bulk container loading system.

The container is standard 20 feet inner-lined container. the material is called PTA powder.

The filling rate is about 100T/h. and I need to throw the powder from one side of the container to the other side to make sure the contaner can be filled as full as possible.

The power will be 5 bar compressed air. the shute pipe size is 8". material drops from 10 meter height to 3 meter height.

Who can advice how much air flow we need?

There is going to be one hell of a lot of dust let loose somewhere. Dust extraction needs to be considered.

Is the container liner capable of holding 5bar? The container certainly isn't. People who pressurise containers are relying on the liner to act as a bursting disc,in process parlance, in the event of a blockage in the venting system. The liner might or might not burst when it is expected to. Liner salesman can tell you it will burst: . making his liner look weak to the nextdoor customer. You cannot trust the uncertified liner to burst and protect the container while making the said liner...no longer a liner if it does burst. So you need a certified pressure relief somewhere in your system. If you are putting an 8" line into the box you probably ought to provide a bigger exhaust pipe.

Are you certain that the container needs to be as full as possible? What legal payload is allowed?

Surely a retractable filler would be better? Container stuffers are commercially available: examine them.

Your present proposal is dangerous (bursting), uneconomic (air cost) and impractical (fixed point discharge method).

Back to the plank (drawing board).

Thanks For Your Advice!

Anyway there are successful installations using pneumatic throwers since it's cheaper and reliable.

The speed of the powder is already 3m/s by gravity at the outlet of the chute pipe. what we need to do is to accelarate it to 25m/s by inject high speed air flow.

.

Shenjie,

There are 2 methods that I know of to fill bulk trucks or bulk rail cars, etc. One is to use an elbow at the end of the loading pneumatic conveying line and manually rotate the elbow inside the truck, and the other is to use a motorized spinner installed on a hatch of the truck or rail car. These spinners are commercially available from vendors. I have used both options with success.
