Any standard belt can be used as long as it is designed for the application. I would recommend

vulcanised splices over mechanical to maintain a tight seal across the belt.

Hi Roger..

The important thing about the belting for air supported belts is that you should not have a bottom cover.

If you do, you can get areas of rubber build up on the trough, which stuffs things up.

Also, just make sure that the belt is suitably floppy so it sits nicely in the trough.

HoverGlide™ air supported belt conveyors (asbc) use meticulously calibrated air chambers to support conveyor belts carrying bulk materials with fewer friction oriented components than vintage roller conveyors.

These conveyors utilize a thin cushion of air (film) rather than idlers to support the belt and load. Use of this air film reduces friction between the tail section and discharge thus reducing dust emissions and, of course, maintenance. This reduction in friction, dust emissions and maintenance can be translated into an annual savings of as much as $40,000 to $50,000 in housekeeping, parts replacement and energy costs. Installation savings may also be realized since walkways along the conveyors are not needed and enclosed galleries are not required.Sushi Chain Conveyor support spacing ranges from 20-40 feet depending on the width.

Incidentally Roger..

Before he joined us, one of our engineers built some areo conveyors, but had to wait some time before he got access to commission them.

The belts he used unfortunately had bottom covers. Not only this, but the conveyors were outside in the hot sun. When the time came to start them up, they were jammed. Even though the belts were enclosed, the bottom covers got stuck to the support trough, like they were vulcanised. He had to open up everything and really battled to rip the belts off the troughs.

(Again I say.. not bottom covers)

Belt For Air Supported Conveyor - So Far So Good...

Hi Graham!

Thank you so much for your replies. Yes I know, it's been almost 6 months. I took all that long to check back this forum.

Anyway, I developed an equipment to distribute biomass (sugar cane bagasse) over an specific area, and I used air supported conveyors on it.

Check the videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJZvXAE80J4 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQZe6e-gOoY

It's been nicely working since June lat year. I used regular belts with bottom covers. So far so good.

Cheers.
