Gebr. Pfeiffer, Inc. Announces a New Project with Calgon Carbon Corporation

Pembroke Pines, Florida, USA, November 2011 - Gebr. Pfeiffer, Inc. was recently awarded a contract with Calgon Carbon Corporation to supply an MPS 200 BK vertical roller mill for coal grinding. The equipment will be used for grinding coal in the production of activated carbon products at Calgon Carbon’s Pearl River Plant located in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

Gebr. Pfeiffer will be providing related engineering services along with the MPS 200 BK mill. The mill will be installed in the Spring of 2012 during the plant’s annual shutdown. The new MPS 200 BK mill will be erected adjacent to the existing mill and, during the shutdown, swapped out in order to reuse the existing mill’s foundation.

The main advantage of this innovative “mill swapping” method is that it will substantially reduce the plant’s capital costs - saving them both money and productivity by not requiring a lengthier shutdown in order to increase their grinding capacity. Installing the MPS 200 BK mill will allow the plant to grind coal at a higher capacity, thus improving the plant’s ability to produce enough activated carbon to accommodate the market demands.
