Countdown to Powder & Bulk Solids India 2012

•Powder & Bulk Solids India in Ahmedabad, 13th to 15th March 2012

•Exhibition space doubled to 1,200 square meters

A new name and a new location will mark the next meeting of the international powder and bulk solids specialists. Powder & Bulk Solids India 2012, formerly known as Bulk Solids India, will be held in Ahmedabad, the economical center of the state Gujarat, from 13th to 15th March, 2012. With its agglomeration of a diverse and vital industry, Gujarat is the perfect location for national and international companies to meet the decision-makers of India’s bulk solids handling and processing industries. Leading global players have already confirmed their participation and booked their stands at the show. The combination of the powder and bulk industry, covering two closely related markets and enriching the business opportunities of the event, offers the chance to nearly double the exhibition space. Powder and Bulk Solids India 2012 is a member of the international POWDER & BULK NETWORK (http://www.powderbulksolidsindia.com/en/). It is jointly organized by the trade fair company NürnbergMesse Group and the German publishing house Vogel Business Media.

In the past two decades India has developed into an economically aspiring nation. Between 2002 and 2007 the country presented an average growth rate of almost nine percent and continued with an impressive recovery after the global downturn in 2008/2009. Today India has the second fastest expanding economy in the world after China. Gujarat is known as the “most market-orientated and business-friendly” amongst the Indian states. It is the country’s major industrial destination for chemical, textile, pharmaceutical, engineering, agro and food processing industries. With 7.2 million people Ahmedabad is the most densely populated city in the state and its commercial capital. Ahmedabad is developing into one of the largest industrial hubs of Western India.

“Embedded in this environment of economic progress, Powder & Bulk Solids India 2012 will present basic processing technologies for powder and bulk materials, plant engineering and processing components, as well as a wide range of specialized products related to the chemical, food, pharmaceutical, cement, mining and ports industry”, said Miriam Hempel, project manager at NürnbergMesse. The internationality of the trade show has increased steadily over the last years: 22.6 percent of the exhibitors in 2011 came from abroad, while show attendees and conference delegates made their way to India from 24 different countries. In 2012, internationally well-known companies like Nord Drivesystems, FLSmidth, Rembe, Röchling, Allgaier and Turbovent will exhibit at the show.

The pow(d)er to grow

With the addition of the powder section to the scope of the trade fair, Powder & Bulk Solids India is the country’s most varied exhibition showing basic processing technologies for powder and bulk solids, plant engineering, processing components and other products connected with the chemical, food, cement, plastic, mining and port industries. At the Powder section of the exhibition, manufacturers and suppliers of mechanical processing and material handling technologies will be showcasing solutions for conveying, transporting, storing and size reduction as well as screening and mixing and the granulation for powder and bulk solids in the various industries.

Enriching expertise

A high-caliber conference and workshop program will provide manufacturers, developers and end users with an excellent opportunity to discuss the latest trends. The conferences will focus on two main topics: “From Port to Plant. Challenges in Power Generation”, which addresses the bulk sector, and “Powder & Granules in Chemicals and Plastics Production – Innovative Approaches for Optimum Results” addressing the powder sector.

In addition to the conference program, there will be an “Exhibitors Forum” embedded in the exhibition, inviting visitors and exhibitors to share expertise in proximity to their products of interest. Exhibitors will have the opportunity to introduce their products and services with a presentation at the forum.

Operation and Maintenance of Fabric Filters -

Dr. Georg Rathwallner, EVONIK Fibres GmbH, Austria

Contents:

Bag Material Selection

The participant shall get an overview on available bag materials, selection criteria and operating limits. The effect of different bag materials on the total operating costs (i.e. with respect to ID-fan power, annual costs for bags and loss of production during maintenance stops) will be discussed.

Operating Parameters for Successful Operation

Typical layout criteria and procedures for safe start-up and shutdown will be presented, with reference to different industries.

Maintenance

Well planned maintenance stops can prevent from a loss of production and violation of emission limits. Certain documentation of replacements and some relevant operating parameters takes just little effort but is essential for proper planning of maintenance work. Documentation of (premature) bag failures allows planning of preventive replacements of single bags and is a good starting point to solve local problems in your bag house (e.g. as a result of condensation or uneven flow distribution).

Bag Condition Monitoring & Trouble Shooting

The identification of different failure patterns and solutions how to increase bag life and performance will be an important part of the workshop. Bag condition monitoring and documentation of relevant operating parameters allow early identification of upcoming failures. This allows planning of maintenance stops in advance and is a good base for optimisation of the bag material.

Methods for on-site checks of filter bags will be shown as well as laboratory methods.

How to Prevent Particle Segregation and Imrove Product Quality

Herman Purutyan, Jenike & Johanson, USA

Contents:

Maintaining a uniform blend of dry bulk solids is a problem faced daily by engineers and operators in industries as varied as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, foods, plastics, and cement production. Even if the process stars with an acceptably blend, often the major problem is maintaining that blend through downstream material handling equipment. The inability to deliver a uniform blend at the point where it is needed is always costly in terms of rejected material, extra blending time, poor process control, defective end products, etc.

This session will cover common mechanisms of particle segregation, methods to quantify segregation tendencies, how flow patterns affect segregation and options for designing or modifying solids handling equipment to minimize segregation.
