Springs Quantity

Dears,

I have seen some discussions about spring selection for vibrating equipments, but

what about spring quantity on each supports?

is the quantity of springs in each support point effect on vibrating feeder operation?

for the same size of feeder : there are cases where there are 3 or 4 springs in each point of feeder support and in the other cases only 1 spring!

Spring Quantities On Vibrating Feeders..

ON a brute force feeder for example:

You will find various numbers of COIL SPRINGS on different SIZED FEEDERS.

Big brute force feeders can be what we call light duty say for taking dumped loads from a WHEELED LOADER...or

med Duty feeders: TAKING larger TONS PER HOUR than a lighter duty feeder or

HEAVY DUTY FEEDERS: Taking DUMP FEED FROM A FULLY LOADED 50TONS MINING TRUCK falling from quite high, impact

in all these cases: the lighter to heaviest...the structural underpan body design for a lighter duty feeder is in fact substantially LESS than the support under a HEAVY DUTY FEEDER.

A heavier feeder would in fact have MUCH HEAVIER COILS SPRINGS AT THE FEED END or DUMP onto POSITION where most of the ABUSE in fact takes place, hence more COIL SPRINGS AND LARGER, LOAD CARRYING SPRINGS HERE vs lighter feeders having less coil springs by mathematical calculation.

We typically would also have a HORIZONTAL COIL SPRING with a STOP PLATE, positioned so that when the FULL DROP IMPACT LOAD ON A DUMP IS FELT BY Mr. FEEDER pan.....it basically wants to "scurry" away from that load and tries to move out of the way. Hence, the back up spring STOPS THAT from happening.

Enjoy, hope this helps.

Spring Quantity In Each Support

Dear Mr. Baker,

thanks for your description. But:

assume we would like to have spring rate about 200 N/mm in each support. we can use one spring with wire diamtere=23 mm OR two springs with wire diameter=18mm(each rated 100 N/mm so both 2x100=200 N/mm), ok?

I would like to know if using one spring or two springs in above case will effect on feeder?

Dear Shri Mohandes,

Each spring will have its particular stiffness and load carrying capacity in accordance with its design features. Now, during design of the particular equipment, if you require double the stiffness at say particular point/s, then you can have a pair of springs at that point/s. Such use of multiple springs at a point/s will reduce the inventory for the supplier of the equipment as well as the user of the equipment.

Spring unit comprising of more number of springs is quite common for spring and visco-damper system to support the heavy load of crusher, turbine, generator, or other equipments.
