SGS supplies spur planetary gear

St. Ingbert, Germany, February 16, 2011 - The hydraulically driven spur planetary gear units for the travel gear of a transport crawler in a Chinese open pit mine, ordered by a German plant construction company at the gear specialists of SGS Sonder Getriebe Service GmbH from St. Ingbert, are exceedingly compact and have a high load capacity. Both gear units are hydraulically driven via two adjustable axial piston motors each. At the output side the gear units are connected to the transport crawler via a flange shaft. The delivery is planned for calendar week 17 in 2011.

The gear units are designed for transport crawlers, which lift head and base stations of conveyor systems with a weight of up to 1250 t, mobile and semi-mobile crushing plants and other open pit mining devices, in order to take them to their new site of operation. Temporary peak loads, like they occur in bends and slopes, can reach up to 2.3 times the nominal output torque. Due to the very limited installation space the gear units must have an extremely compact design. Moreover, the low ambient temperatures at the site of operation need to be considered.

"When gear units are operated below cryogenic temperature we generally use cold-resistant steels and special lubricants", Hackenberger, Managing Director of SGS, emphasizes. In order to be able to reliably transmit the high loads, SGS pay special attention to all force-conducting elements. "That is why we perform a standard inspection of all force-conducting components by means of the Finite Element Analysis (FEA)", Hackenberger says.

Both spur planetary gear units will be used in a Chinese open pit mine and are designed for an operation period of at least 15 years.

SGS Sonder Getriebe Service GmbH is specialized in manufacturing and repairs of large and special industrial reducers, including their components, among others for the heavy industry, the mining industry, wind energy plants, power plants, and other industrial applications with a demand of applications with high power and extreme load capacities.

SGS is well known for the high quality and fast realization even of very complex demands. SGS targets clients in the field of plant operation, as well plant engineering and construction, equipment manufacturing companies in the wind and power energy, materials handling, and other industrial process sections, but also manufacturers of special equipment and machines. The scope of drive applications that can be equipped with SGS reducers and components includes among others large rock and coal crushers, large and special materials handling equipment, processing equipment, large milling machines, as well drives for special excavating equipment in the open pit mining industry.

SGS is located in St. Ingbert Saarland. It was founded by Mr. Uwe Hackenberger, graduated engineer in mechanical engineering specialized in the automotive and materials handling field. He and all other managers of SGS worked former in senior management positions of ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik, as well as other international leading companies in the field of plant engineering and construction.
