Hanover, MA, USA, October 6, 2010 – Sturtevant Inc. announces its collaboration with Powder Systems Ltd. by exhibiting at FIP Pharmaceutical Sciences in association with the AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition, November 14-18, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana USA.
On display together will be Powder System Limited’s Glass Filter Dryer (GFD™) and Sturtevant’s Sanitary Design Jet Mill Micronizer®. Together the units are ideal for filtration, drying and jet milling pharmaceutical powders in a laboratory R & D setting.
The Glass Filter Dryer (GFDTM) is an innovative piece of laboratory/pilot plant equipment. It is a miniature
version of a PSL production filter dryer, allowing easy lab scale filtration and drying and scale up. The different sizes of GFD™ available mean that there will be a GFD™ to meet any laboratory’s needs.
Once dried, the powder is then milled in Sturtevant’s lab size Jet Mill Micronizer®, which can be fully contained in a PSL Isolator for Laboratories developing powder formulations with fine particle sizes. The Sturtevant Sanitary Design Micronizer® (USDA-Accepted Jet Mill) utilizes a unique fluid energy grinding system to generate particle-on-particle impact. Designed for high performance below 325 mesh (44 microns) — the economical fineness limit of many mechanical grinders — the Micronizer® can consistently produce fines as small as 0.5 microns. It uses quick-release clamps throughout the system and requires no tools for disassembly. With feasibility established in the Qualification Micronizer®, scale-up is simplified in Sturtevant’s Lab and Production Micronizers®.
PSL also offers the Universal Milling Isolator. This innovative design is perfect when multiple mills are required for a single product / process. Mills are mounted onto interchangeable mobile skids for quick and easy change over; these can then be used independently from the isolator for less potent compounds. The ergonomic “L” shaped window has plenty of room for mills to be changed, stripped and cleaned within the isolator.
