Transporting Dried Sludge

Material: Dried sludge in pellet and granular form

Client: Siemens Spa - Water Technologies, with headquarters and factories in Casteggio, Pavia - Italy. This is a very well known and established company with worldwide experience and knowledge in the development of technology for the treatment of sewage and sludge.

Problem

Siemens Water Technologies and The Chiampo Water Consortium in charge of the water service for ten town councils in the province of Vicenza - Italy, are in partnership to modernise and develop the water plant in Arzignano, Vicenza, for the treatment of industrial water residue from tanning.

They aim

-To adopt a suitable transport method for dried materials which is also environmentally friendly.

-To guarantee the integrity of the transported product, in granular or pellet form, up to storage silos.

Solution

The adoption of four installations with the TPA full line systems made by Air-Tec system have allowed Siemens Water Technologies to safely transport the dried sludge obtained from the depuration and filtration of waste water from tanneries in Arzignano, Vicenza.

The dried material, in the form of granules or pellets, is driven by the vessels with compressed air at low speed to the storage silos. The trajectory is completely enclosed. It measures 120m and includes sections in underground tunnels where high quality level boosters guarantee an optimal performance.

The vessels and the lines have been insulated to avoid sudden changes in temperature which cause blockages in the systems.

The technology of Air-Tec system for the transport in dense phase allows granular or pellet materials to maintain their integrity (thanks also to the use of anti wear cast iron curves at a wide range). This method complies with environmental safety guidelines to prevent dispersal of particles into the air.
