KUBOTA – Platon II – Pellet Screening System

KYUHOJI, OSAKA, JAPAN (April 16, 2010)Kubota Corporation’s Pellet Screening System, Platon II, is able to detect black contaminants as minute as 0.1 mm in a pellet stream using high-resolution line sensor cameras designed with 5150-pixel over a width of 200 mm. The Platon II operates as an in-line pellet screening system which incorporates a new auto-tuning function. This function automatically selects the best screening conditions; shortens the start up time and minimizes any adjusts required to optimize performance.

The Platon II detects and removes defective pellets that are stained or discolored and pellets of different colors from the main pellet flow to prevent contamination of the final product. The Platon improves the purity of recycled pellets or flakes such as those made of PET.

The Platon II is designed for easy maintenance. All parts in material contact are made of stainless steel and can easily be removed without the use of tools. The parts can be cleaned and replaced in the unit in a short time, thus minimizing downtime when there is a product changeover.

The operation panel of the Platon II is a color liquid crystal touch panel for entering any product specific parameters and for executing the auto-tuning sequence prior to operation. The controller has the capability to store the settings of 32 different kinds of materials in its memory to be retrieved when a specific material is chosen to be ran on the Platon.

Kubota has testing facilities available to do screening tests with materials provided by the customer. Both on-spec and off-spec materials are required to complete such test work. Customers can witness the tests to see the Platon operation if requested.

The Platon II will be exhibited at Chinaplas 2010 held from 19 to 22 April, 2010 in Shanghai, China. The Kubota booth is located in Hall E4, Booth M06.
