CVTs as a Soft Starter

Posted in: , on 25. Jan. 2010 - 04:23

I'm a graduate business student at

the Rochester Institute of Technology. I'm working on the technology commercialization project and looking for application for a new Continuously Variable Transmission Econoflow, invented at RIT.

Econoflow is a novel transmission that provides a broad and continuous range of gear ratios yielding extremely smooth startups and downshifting. The change in gear ratios occurs fully automatically without any expensive computer- actuated hydraulic controls. Econoflow integrates a unique planetary gear train with a torque convertor in a compact packing slightly larger than the torque convertor alone.

I am analyzing the soft start applications market and use of Econoflow in material handling industries. I would really appreciate the comments from experts in this field and would gladly answer your question or provide any additional information.

Thanks! Sergii Opanasenko

Dear Sergii,

I am familiar with many types of variable speed systems used, not tried or used, tried and failed, and systems that may have regulation problems and differing PID loop controls that are stable, are not stable, are stable for some conditions and not others. Mechanical and electronic systems are our specialties.

I have spent 44 years working on belt conveyor systems. If I don't know, I might be able to point you to others with similar credentials that can further critique your methods.

I will be available to discuss in any detail you wish on this subject for the remainder of the coming week. We all are eager to learn more, and to welcome others that are attempting to advance the art.

I await your call or email to the undersigned during normal business hours of the greater north west (Seattle - Vancouver)/
