Vibrating Feeder Failure

Posted in: , on 13. Dec. 2009 - 13:53

Dear All,

Appreciate some help from forum users on this threat.

The Vibro Feeder is 1.2m W x 1.75 m L with plain trough mounted at 10 deg inclined with 2 motor at back side.

Taking opportunity to explain the problem more detail

During discharge of material the vibro feeder Rear end, hanging bolt sheared off at thread portion and one corner of vibro feeder trough got tilted down, resulted for dumping of coke on ground from silo discharge chute with in no time . we unable to access and close the discharge unless it stop on its own and finally belt was tripped off due to coke piles up on conveyor structure completely (attached photo will explain the situation). It can be seen in attached photos the bolt got sheared off at thread portion.

Above type of failures happening frequently type of failure was similar .Now looking for solution which cans avoid recurrence of the problem

Regards

Dear Mr. Reddy,

Couldn't find any attachment.

Prima facie it seems introduction of a gate can help. By looking at the arrangement or photograph further thought can be given.

Dear Designer,

It is not matter of experience and all the problems may not be same in nature, I believe that interacting and sharing the problems with experience people like you will gives better solutions

In my experience never crossed this type of problem, of course earlier supplies was not giving this type of design problems

It doesn’t mean that all the problems will be solved with your only solution and cannot be solved just like that .Certain problems will take time to understand the root cause

My sincere request to you is don’t discourage the participants

Dear Mr. Reddy,

I have seen your photographs.

You can improve upon the quality and size of bolts in consultation with your supplier or by your own resources to minimise the possibility of failure. But you cannot say that failure will never occur.

The point here is you should have a secondary protection for such disasters. Motorised Gate at the silo discharge mouth is a standard practice for such applications. If you can show us an arrangement drawing of silo and feeder (or a photograph near silo mouth with complete feeder), I can suggest what type of gate will be suitable.

A Swingers Club With Hangers-On

Local amplitude is excessive for the spring hanger clearance. Bolt stems are impacting the hanger which in turn is causing additional fatigue loading and shearing the threads at the point of load input.

Note that the hanger is only worn in one location. If the hanger suspension point is moved to re-establish adequate clearance then the failures should cease.

Dear Mr.Reddy,

Is the problem solved now? If the failure is happening only at one location there could be alignment problem also. please let us know if the proble is solved.

As louis has stated the feeder is mounted improperly which

created the failure of the hangers.

The feeder should be held by a frame(either independent or attached

to the hopper will allow the proper anchoring of the hanger bolts.

Who ever did this cut corners and was not attentive to detail as the

hangers should not be as they are in the photos you have provided.

the extension simply added resonance and induced the swaying from what I can see

and the springs increased the damage.

You also have very little room to hang a feeder there using the photo as a guide which

is why they did what they did which was a poor design which failed due to resonance

The quick solution would be an I beam or H beam frame secured to the floor and built

from the floor up to hang the feeder properly and avoid hanging it from the roof as you have

plenty of room to do that from th epicture you have provided.

I would say a bad installation.

Surely it can't be right for the hangers to foul the support bracket to such an extent that extensive wear occurs, and the 'feeder' photo seems to show a bend in the hanger?

I would guess that the mode of failure in the 'vibrating feeder' photo is fatigue. Has this been examined by an expert?

Mr Reddy

The bolt is impacting the mounting bracket and creates a moment that works on the weakest part of the bolt-transition from the shank of the bolt into the thread. Make the hole in the bracket bigger so there is no impact between the racket and the bolt and you shall have no further problems.

Another option is to modify the suspension - hanging lantern type and it will also solve your problem.
