TEMCOR AWARDED CONTRACT TO BUILD BULK STORAGE DOME IN THE UKRAINE

Satisfied Customer Returns for Another Limestone Storage Dome

Gardena, CA September 15, 2009CRH Group has contracted with Temcor to build a limestone storage dome at another of their facilities, the Podilsky Cement plant in Kamyanets-Podilsky, Ukraine. This followed the successful installation at an earlier project for another of CRH’s subsidiaries, Irish Cement. Repeat business with satisfied customers has contributed to Temcor’s stature in the industry. Temcor is the world’s largest Aluminum Dome builder.

In 2007, Temcor built a 105m diameter Temcor Aluminum Dome at the Platin Works cement plant in Drogheda, Ireland near Dublin. The Platin Works plant and the Podilsky plant are both part of the CRH Group.

“We’ve always made customer satisfaction a priority,” said Clark Margolf, executive vice president at Temcor. “Repeat business speaks to our success in the bulk storage and other industries.”

The dome at Podilsky, like the one in Ireland, will be a 105m diameter Temcor Aluminum Dome for limestone storage. Custom features will include a conveyor opening, truck access and man doors with dormers, and a gravity vent at the top of the dome. The dome was engineered for its location – designed to withstand snow loads of 0.79kPa and dust loads from 0.17kPa to 2.0kPa. All-aluminum construction will keep the dome maintenance- and corrosion-free for years to come.

The dome was manufactured at Temcor’s facility near Savannah, Georgia and was shipped to the site, ready-to-assemble in late April 2009. It is being erected by a local crew under the supervision of a Temcor construction consultant. Additionally, Temcor has provided a seven-sided erection tower for its Center Tower Erection Method: the dome is built on the ground, from the center out, then raised into position as each ring is assembled. This erection method not only adds an element of safety, but also reduces construction time. Dome construction at Podilsky began June 2, 2009 and is scheduled to be complete after a short 12- to 14-week construction period.

Temcor Aluminum Dome systems for the bulk storage industry are in place worldwide. Temcor has been building aluminum domes and other structures for more than 40 years and has more than 8,000 installations throughout the world in industries as varied as water and wastewater treatment, petroleum, and scientific research. Temcor domes and roof systems for architectural applications are in place as sports arenas, cruise terminals, planetariums, churches, and more.
