the difference should be quite easy:
a non slew able stacker has non of the following equipment:
- slew bearing with gear rim
- slew drives (mostely 2 of them)
- complicated flange structures (which must be machined)
the following makes the design of a non-slewing stacker easier:
- tripper car hight can be reduced and you don't have to consider slewing mechanism of the boom
- complete machine weight can be reduced
- ... ■
Comapare Slew And Non Slew Stacker
Hi,
Slew Stacker would be used if you are stacking on both sides of the track. If this is true, the alternative is a Twin Booom Stacker.
A twin Boom Stacker is about 15% cheaper than the Slewing Boom Stacker.

that's actually not the hole truth, of course this is correct that you can make two stockpiles with a slewing stacker but you also have to consider the stacking methods:
with a boom (luffing and) non slewing stacker you can perform the following stacking methods:
- chevron stacking
- cone shell
with a boom luffing and slewing stacker you can perform the following stacking methods:
- chevron stacking
- cone shell
- windrow
- combinations /modifications of all kind of stacking methods (ie. combination of chevron and windrow, starting point of chevron not in the middle ...)
if you have to design a stockpile the stacking methods are quite important (i.e. for the steel industry you need to have a very homogeneus stockpile).
With a non slewing stacker you can never create such a homogeneus stockpile like with a slewing stacker.
If ha homogeneus stockpile is not required there's nothing against a non slewing stacker.
I have to say that I've never had to do something with twin boom stackers, but I don't believe that they are so much cheaper than slewing stackers:
- higher tripper car because you need a chute where it's possible to seperate the material volume (if one stockpile is fully reclaimed and the other not)
- therefore you have to design both booms / boom conveyors with the same capacity as the tripper car.
- you need two luffing arrangements (winch or hydraulic cylinders)
- generally you have two booms instead of one so you have more weight which increases the wheel loads, heavier structures are required, etc.
I'm not convinced that they are cheaper, but I never had to do something with those twin boom type stackers... I might be wrong ■
Cost Of Slewing And Luffing
It all depends on the design parameters of our radial stacker. A minimum requirement will add another 40% for an improvised carriage for radial traversing and strong pivot at the tail end both combined enables smooth radial traversing.

A "percentage" difference would be adequate. I am looking at a 1,200 tph stacker for a coal stockyard. The client is looking to save some money and wants to know more or less what the difference in costs would be.
The design of the yard is not really suited to a slewing machine, but this was originally specified.
Any help would be appreciated.

The percentage difference would be approximately 5% of the overall cost, the only difference would be the removal of the wheels and radial wheel drive, however, to ensure maximum flexibility we would recommend the inclusion of this radial option as the unit would be used for other applications in the future.
