Pelletron Introduces Newly Patented Low-Leakage Rotary Valves (Airlocks)

Saving energy and market demands were the underlying factors for the development of a low-leakage rotary valve series for pneumatic conveying for granular products. Pelletron developed a new rotor design with expanded tips at the end of the rotor blades. Expanded vanes at the ends result in lower air leakage. A patent is pending for this very unique design. In combination with the special rotor design, the number of rotor blades could be increased as well, which also contributes to a lower leakage rate. More vanes also provide more pockets, and result in an improved continuous product flow at higher filling rates. In addition, the air vent was completely redesigned for optimized venting. Because of the strong structural rotor design, the clearance of the rotor in the housing could be reduced to a minimum. The major features of the new valves are:

1.Expanded end tips of the rotor vanes

2.Increased number of vanes and pockets

3.Optimized venting design

4.Low clearance rotor

The combination of the four features resulted in a heavy duty rotary valve with the lowest possible leakage of air, continuous product flow, and high filling efficiency.

The new rotary valves are available for various pressure applications, from a medium differential pressure of 22psi (1.5 bar), to a high pressure version for 50psi (3.5 bar). The valves are available for conveying capacities of 4500 lbs/h (~2t/h) up to 220000 lbs/h (~100t/h), depending on the bulk density of the conveyed product. A quick-clean version for adhesive products or for easy cleaning during product change over is available as well, called GQM-series.

The housing is made in stainless steel or hard-coated aluminum, and the rotor is always made in stainless steel. Besides the technical features, Pelletron also given its valves a new unique patent-protected appearance.

The Granular Rotary Valve for Medium pressure is named GRM–series and the

Granular Rotary Valve for High pressure is named GRH–series.

A low pressure, a medium pressure, a high pressure and a polished quick-clean version are displayed at the NPE show

Pelletron also developed a new low-pressure rotary valve named GRL. This valve is designed for gravity discharge and metering applications.
