Reversible Yard Conveyor

Posted in: , on 10. Jul. 2009 - 13:11

Hello Experts

We are erecting two new stacker cum reclaimers and below yard conveyor are of Reversible Type i.e two directions, so that material can be stacked in one direction and reclaimed in other direction.

Belt Width : 1200MM

Belt c/c is 750 Meters

Dual drive

Rated Capacity : 1000 TPH

Material : Imported Coal

Now my question is what precautions required to be taken during installation of conveyor so that belt runs in center while operating in both direction.

Kindly suggest

Since you have not told us very much in regard to this;

I will be assuming:

1. you are using an intermediate drive unit at the center distance of the belts length to power the 42 inch belt with two head pulleys at both ends.

The entire belt line must be level or a level slab poured for the belt route to carry the belt line being either the cable supported type or steel supported belt.

The center line of the belt must be determined with a surveying crew to assure proper placement of the drive unit, belt stands, idlers, and head pulleys.

The belt support stands being either cable or steel must adjusted to be level from side to side all the way to both head pulleys from the drive unit.

The troughing idlers must be installed equal distance to each other prior to installing the conveyor belt, the belt stands must be installed the same distance from each other as well.

The drive unit must be level and properly anchored with a slab foundation unless it is anchored to hard rock and shimmed.

The system needs 4 belt scrapers for the head pulleys and at both the front and rear of the intermediate drive units bottom belt.

Clearance for shoveling fines from under the intermediate drive unit is required to be able to shovel fines away and allow proper tracking of the belt.

The cut ends of belt splices must be square and the mechanical or vulcanized splice must be installed properly or all is lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rolls of belting can be set on stands at one end of the conveyor system and then pulled under the return side to allow splicing on the top side of the belt- make sure the thicker side of the belt is on the troughing idler/impact side.

A few feet of belt will be lost(due to the holes drilled for the rope or winch cable) used to drag it through the bottom idlers to allow it to be spliced on the top side of the belt.

The belt line should have a training troughing idler every ten troughing idlers and one training return idler for every ten belt stands.

Both un-powered head pulley drums should also have a troughing training idler prior to the elevation of the head pulley drum to be sure it is centered at all times.

Lagging on the pulley drums for the drive unit is a must have item and installing lagging head pulleys will be good insurance against slippage during the rainy season.

the above are cheap insurance in my opinion.

The above statement about "training idlers" is from Continental Conveyor Corporation.

After everything is level and the belt has been properly spliced the belt should be run empty to train it if needed by simply adjusting the position of the troughing idlers and belt stands.

The training idlers have swivels in the center of the idler support and roller edges to help to keep the belt in line if the belt miss-behaves.

My two Cents or Ruppee's etc.

Make sure all idlers are square to the stringers.

Make sure you have shoe type on centre line NOT offset roller type training idlers, otherwise you will be steering in the wrong direction in reverse.

Make sure you are loading in the centre of the belt at both feed points. Off centre loading negates even the best alignment jobs.

Most important, make sure you have an experienced person do the belt training on start up. I have had to sort out a few messes made by self proclaimed "experts".

I appreciate the way the both gentlemen has shared their experiance. The explaination is so much informative that even a paid consultant would not have come up to this level. That is the beauty of this Forum where numbers of experts give their advise/share their knowledge without asking an inch.

That is the best part about long chutes where gravity slows the mess down by dropping on the chute and where where it is no problem for the tail pulley to take it away.

You forgot the best part:

When the expert who is doing the work(fixing a splice) is done with it leaves the belt control on manual and walks away.

Then the fun starts and I have to shovel to be able to grease the tail pulley.

Mr.RK,

What is the type of lagging in the drive pulley?

Make An Impact To Stay On Track

In reclaim mode you might/ought to be feeding onto an impact nest which sort of determines the belt alignment since it is effectively a very high training, or otherwise, device. It should be mentioned that the impact idler nest used to be fixed to the tripper frame & was then, in those days, sometimes subject to the vagaries of the trackwork. I trust your modern, up to date, impact nest support will incorporate adequate lateral float to facilitate the maintenance of alignment throughout the full travel range. It matters not a jot if the ground structure is perfect: all the good work will be stuffed out of sight if the impact nest is driven off track.

Hello ganesh

Both Drive Pulley lagging is Diamond 20thk rubber lagging is shown in the drawing

Secondly still civil work is underprogress.
