Quantachrome Expands Operations in China

In response to robust sales growth in the People's Republic of China, Quantachrome Instruments' Representative Office there adds new staff, opens a second office location and organizes popular customer training courses.

The Quantachrome Representative Office announces the appointment of two scientists from Tongji University as Technical Specialists. Dr. Xiang Xu will work from the new office in Shanghai, and Dr. Hou Jin Qiang will be located in Beijing. Dr Xu's most recent research was developing porous solids for advanced propulsion systems. Dr. Hou's expertise includes preparation and characterization of fullerenes and other carbon-based advanced materials. The new office location in Shanghai, which also includes training rooms, will serve the East and South China. A Quantachrome Demo and Application Center in Shanghai will also be established very soon.

Mr. Jeffrey Yang, Quantachrome Chief Representative /China Manager says "Based on strong application and service support, the rate of market growth of Quantachrome products has*expanded signficantly in northern China. We have already established deep relationships on application support with DICP, Tsinghua Univerisity, Beijing University, Nankai University, as well as Beijing Center of Physical & Chemical Analysis serving the north. Expanding the Shanghai Office will ensure that the south and south-east regional customers will get quick support and share the enriched application experience when using their excellent Quantachrome instruments".

In response to the launch of the enhanced regional support, sixty three scientists from eastern China attended a one day training course in Fudan, to learn about gas physisorption measurements from both technical and application points of view. The course, organized by the Quantachrome Representative Office in China, and presented by Mr. Jeffrey Yang (Quantachrome), was held at Fudan University on December 18, 2008. Gas physisorption is the analytical technique that is used to determine the surface area and pore size of powders and porous solids - essential physical properities of industrial and advanced research-stage materials. Typical materials analyzed this way are catalysts for the petrochemical industry, ceramics, and nano materials for electronics, magnets and fuel cells.

Similar courses had already been successfully held in Beijing and Zhejiang in October and November, with more than one hundred people joining these courses that received good feedback.

Quantachrome Instruments, founded in 1968, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of analytical instrumentation for characterizing properties of porous materials and powders, specializing in multi-sample-station instruments and state-of-the-art data reduction methods. This ISO 9001:2000 registered manufacturer offers renowned scientific support.
