Recover potential recyclables from electronic scrap

Venti Oelde electronic scrap processing plant fulfills the increasing demands of the recycling market

At the request of a large recycling company, Venti Oelde has developed a shredder recycling plant specially for electronic scrap. Iron, aluminium and precious metals as well as plastics can be profitably recovered using this innovative plant. Venti Oelde is responsible for the complete engineering: the sort-ing technology, air cleaning of all exhaust air-streams, networking and plant control.

Innovative shredder technology

Venti Oelde has been working for decades with the shredder supplier, Albert Hoffmann GmbH, Esch-weiler. Hoffmann supplies a variety of shredder designs, which, depending on their application, have drive outputs up to 6000 hp. All the wear parts required are manufactured in their own steelworks with attached foundry. Experience acquired in the area of large shredders was used in the new compact shredder for electronic scrap. The advantages of the new electronic scrap shredder are drive outputs of 400 to 800 hp with flexible adjustment of the rotating speed, the rotor equipped with hammers and rings as well as the quick-change top grate.

Separating technology with dry dust collection

The shredded material passes into a zigzag separator via an input chute, whose special Venti Oelde design prevents the entry of false air. Fans blow a precisely calculated air volume contrary to the mate-rial flow so as to carry air-borne solids, such as foil and light plastic particles, into a high-efficiency cy-clone-separator. Large parts are here removed from the air, which is then returned to the zigzag sepa-rator.

Less than 15 % air is removed from the air loop and cleaned. The finest heavy-metal grit and particles are filtered in a dry dust collection system, which is far more effective than a wet scrubber.

Separation of precious metals, aluminium and plastic

The ferrous part is removed from the material stream with an electrically operated magnetic drum, so as to recover ferrous metals as a marketable product. Finally, in the induction separator aluminium is re-jected and separated from the rest of the material stream.

The remaining material mixture passes through a sensor-supported sorting system, the so-called „metal finder“. Precious metals are identified and propelled into a separate chamber by pneumatic nozzles. By this means, plastic is separated from precious metals, so that they do not land in the smelting furnace (refiner), downstream of the plant, where gold, silver, copper and lead are recovered. The furnace ca-pacity is better used and there is less toxic exhaust gas. In addition, the recovered plastic can be sold on the booming market.

Turn-key supply

Venti Oelde supplies the plant with complete control via PC field bus. All operational parameters are shown in advance and archived. During on-going operation they can be visualized in detail and closely monitored.
