The velocity at distance X from the hood face reduces as the square of the distance, i.e., if you double distance X, the exhaust quantity quadruples.
Look in "Industrial Ventilation- A Manual of Recommended Practice" published by the American Conference of Governmental industrial Hygienists.

Design basis: capture velocity v/s face velocity
1.While designing dust extraction Unit for a bagging point, the qty of air flow through the DEU HOOD is dependent on the face velocity apart from other factors(hood dimensions, distance etc)
And 2.while designing DEU for bag dumping station, the qty of air flow through the DEU hood is dependent on the capture velocity?
If true, why so?
