Double Roll Crusher-gear operation?

We have a 150tph crusher for Limestone crushing at our mine.We need the product mix of 50-100 mm, 10-50mm and minimum of fines. We have a double roll crushers for secondary crushing (feed is over 100mm app 30-50tph),each driven by a 50 HP motor connected by a helical hanging gear with 16:1 ratio. These gears get damaged frequently ,which leads to loss of production and lot of running around. Is there is a proven way to run this system efficiently without gears or we have to change it altogether with a granulator - any other device?

Your crusher is driven by a single motor. You can modify the crusher and install V-belt drives for driving the rolls. All the double roll crushers used / installed by me had two motors for driving two rolls and Vee Belt drives. You can see arrangement in following link: http://www.aubema.de/wDatasheet/RollCrusher2Double.pdf

Thank you Vinayak

Could you also guide me regarding

1. what should be the optimal RPM for the Roll crushers

2. Should both be on same axis / line or there should be a diff of 1/2 to one inch in their placement

If you are happy with present crushing work, you can select same RPM after modifications.

One of the rolls with drives will need to be movable - positioned by hydaulic system or spring loading. You may be able to get this modification done by a reputed crusher manufacturer in Baroda.

WHY are the gears frequently damaged......eliminate that.....no need to change anything.

DO you have relief springs or hydraulic relief is an UNCRUSHABLE try to pass?

You must be having bearing changes frequently......yes?

Just a thought....
