Duty. A plough share is for heavy work where ribbons would get ...to ribbons.

Plough Share V Ribbon Blender

I would put it that the ploughshare is suitable for more intensive work input to the product, where a ribbon blender is for applications that can be accommodated by less aggressive mixing processes, with double shaft paddle mixers being in between in terms of the degree of energy needed to affect the required degree of shear for pastes and cohesive products. Banbury type mixers are for the realy tough end of the scale and static mixers fit in for blending delicate, non-cohesive duties.

The proliferation of mixer types must be confusing for the non-specialist and most industries relay of traditional methods, rather than assessing the duty on fundamental principles. Advances in on-line measuring and feeding technology has enlarged to opportunities for continuous, rather than batch mixing, but again selection is often based on historical experience, which is least relatively predictable, but may not secure optimum efficiency, especially at the light end of the range.

A particular handicap of static mixing is that, similar to techniques to mitigate segregation, the design experience and development costs can far exceed the fabrication value and be commercially unattractive, particualrly as the risks to the manufacturer tend to far exceed the benefits to the user.

Historical experience is not very reliable at the very heavy end of mixing either where there is plethora of chancers ready to have a go, at the client's expense.

Use of Ploughshare Mixers is limited only by one's imagination. It can be used for mixing variuos phase interactions viz Solid-Solid, Solid - Liquid and Solid Gaseous.

In a Ploughshare Mixer, the product being processed is mechanically fluidized accordingly there is increase in specific area and hence more intimate mixing. With added feaures a Ploughshare Mixer can be used as an effective reactor and dryer. The residence time is very small for mixing.

Whereas Ribbon Blender the mass is moved without any fluidization and hence the interaction between the particles is limited. It can be used more for blending and the in case of solid liquid interaction, the liquid quantity is limited.

This statement needs a bit more justification i.e. accordingly ?
