Rapid Crushing
During an intensive, four-day period, the Gregory Demolition team processed and removed around 12,000 tonnes of mixed construction and demolition waste to its recycling facility in Barking, Essex where it was destined to be processed by the company’s new Extec C-12+ track-mounted mobile crusher.
Dean Gregory reports that material is crushed to order and that productivity is not a major issue in this application. That said, Gregory says that he has been impressed by sheer speed of the C-12+. “It is much faster than our previous machines. It processed around 9,000 tonnes of mixed C&D waste in just two weeks,” he says. “In fact, our loading excavators have trouble keeping pace with it.”
The unit is fitted with a grizzly feeder that separates fines, and rebar is pre-segregated prior to crushing, even though the C-12+ can handle steel with ease. An overband magnet separates the rebar for onward processing.
Pleasing Purchase
Dean Gregory is clearly impressed with his latest Extec purchase. “Extec crushers are reliable and are ideal for demolition work. They’re rugged, well built and best of all, they are not over complicated. This makes them easy to work with and easy to train our staff to operate them, Gregory concludes.
“Obviously we looked at other crushers but we were particularly impressed with the C-12+. It’s done everything that we expected of it and more. We are extremely pleased with the purchase.”

Extec C-12+ Hits the Tracks for Gregory Demolition
A London based contractor has underlined its faith in Extec track-mounted crushers with the purchase of a new C-12+ unit to tackle the arisings from a demanding demolition project that produced 10,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste in just three days. Gregory Demolition is using the 49 tonne Extec unit, the fourth in the company’s fleet, to process waste materials from Network Rail’s East London Line project, adjacent to Brick Lane.
Gregory Demolition, one of the UK’s foremost demolition contractors, has again put its faith in Extec crushers with the purchase of a new C-12+ track-mounted mobile unit. The company, a recognised expert in highly complex bridge dismantling applications, has put the 49 tonne unit to work immediately at its Barking recycling depot where it is processing arisings from the demolition of three double tunnels near London’s Brick Lane.
Jurassic Park
The contract on the Liverpool Street line, known as the G19 project, required the controlled dismantling of a 3,000 m2 bridge structure. Work commenced on Christmas Eve and continued over the Christmas period. To ensure optimum operator safety and to ensure that the company met the stringent contract deadlines, Gregory utilised a large number of standard and high reach excavators equipped with a range of front-end attachments. “To give you an idea of scale, we deployed 450, six metre crane mats to help protect the rail infrastructure,” says managing director Dean Gregory. “At one point, there were that many excavators working side by side that Network Rail nicknamed the site ‘Jurassic Park’ because it looked like a dinosaur feeding frenzy. Mind you, when overrun penalties run at £88,000 per hour, it does tend to focus the mind. I am pleased to say we finished our contract early, and came in 38% ahead of the scheduled time”.
