Walking floor trailer unloading dock

Posted in: , on 9. Feb. 2008 - 16:16

I am working on developing a dock to unload walking floor trailers containing a blended material that is 33% sawdust by weight. I have not had much luck finding anyone who has built something like this in the US. I understand they are fairly common in EU. I would rather not re-invent the wheel. Where in the posts would be the right place to put a thread on this topic?

How in heavens name do you expect to collect it all!!!!!!!!!?????????

what you need is a "Morbark" wood chip gathering unit which will roll into the a wood chip trailer with a gathering belt and an operators cabin to collect and unload it via a belt conveyor and carry it away to point B.

Short of dumping it into a below ground hopper with a feeder underneath it you are asking for lots of trouble with fugitive dust and a huge explosion and fire hazard.

Any chance of a link to the appropriate page on the web site?

I also think you are overstating the explosion risk, unless you completely ignore the basics of design for a potentially explosive atmosphere and never bother to do any housekeeping.

[PS, I am aware of the recent sugar explosion in the US.]

Sawdust Receiving Dock

hcrosmun,

You are correct, no need to `re-invent the wheel'. Unloading walking-floor trailers containing biomass is commonly done, and any competent materials handling company or engineering firm specializing in biomass (wood, sawdust, shavings, wastewood and bark) should be able to help you, if not with the design then at least in pointing you in the right direction. However, you will need to provide more information regarding your exact requirements, than you have in your posting.

It's not so far away from tipper receiving is it? You hopper can run with a belt substantially above ground because the trailer deck is fixed height, give or take the air suspension delays. Specify a fire resistant belt & give it a go.

Only 67% of the product is unknown.

Its is not clear what the remaining 66% is or where the ultimate destination of the contents are to go. A transverse collecting screw can probably perform the initial collecting function with the minimum of spillage and dust, but then it is a question of what to do with the material when you have it under control.

Walking Floor Unloading Dock

Hello,

Assuming this thread is linked to the Pfister Feeder ( Rotor ?) thread, the application seems to be use of saw dust and related material as Secondary Fuel ?

Suggestion to use a lateral screw extractor at the walking floor trailer outlet is an used concept . Sometimes overlapping multiple screws are used to get a wider shear cross section on the screw feeder inlet .

An Apron feeder is prefered by some cement plants in EU to move the material discharged by the docked walking floor trailer .

A Drag Chain Extractor also is in common use.

All the three prefeeder extractor schemes feed to a belt weighfeeder . Prefeeder has to run synchronous to the belt weighfeeder based on demand feed rate - which then discharges into a blow thru rotary feeder to convey direct into the burner. Alternatively - the weighfeeder may discharge into anpther drag chain conveyor for discharging into flap gates leading to precalciner burners.

Please contact me on email if interested in sample P&I diagrams .
