Maximum Speed for Tripper Belt Conveyor

Posted in: , on 2. Feb. 2008 - 09:56

Dear All,

I am designing a stacking conveyor ( Tripper Conveyor) for stacking coal capacity as 40000 tons

Pile are 60 x100 mts

Conveyor Capacity: 2000 TPH

Belt width 2000mm

Trought angle 35 degree.

Can any recommend what should be the max speed of belt.

Can anybody suggest other option for stacking.

Thanks & regards

There are many conditions which affect the design selection. We are not here to offer a design without compensation. I can offer some general comments that are obvious to experienced belt designers:

1. Belt speed ? What sets the limit, needs to be answered. In general, the speed should be the maximum attainable without detriment to product, spillage, air borne dust contamination, or the many other considerations that will result in a cost effective design.

2, Why so wide a belt? A very conservative belt width might be 1400 mm with a belt speed of 3.3 m/s. Your 2000mm belt suggests a belt speed of less than 2 m/s. Why so low. This also drives up the cost and necessary belt strength. Everthing becomes monsterous and extremely costly.

3. Why 35 degree trough idlers with the wide belt?

4. Insufficient design details are offered to make a informed recommendation.

Your option is to lower the pile unless you have a shuttle spreader to acheive 60m bed layers.

Dear Shri Bartakke,

The belt width chosen by you looks to be quite large. 2000 mm belt width would be required when capacity is in excess of say 4000 mtph for coal. Mr. Nordell has already given some more information.

Maximum Speed For Tripper Conveyor

Dear Sir,

Belt speed depends on the following factors.

1. Lumpsize.

2. Abrasiveness of material

For 2000mm & coal you can go upto 3.0 m/sec. But belt width is too high. You can go for 45 deg truoghing angle & can reduce the belt width.

Dear Sir

Belt speed depends on the following factors

lump size

density of the material

for 2000mm wide steel-cord belt like ST 3150 you can go 6m/s and the loding capacity you go upto 20000t/h for your information it`s well running in N.L.C lignite corporation in Tamilnadu INDIA.
