Coal Drying

Posted in: , on 13. Dec. 2007 - 08:24

The quality of coal from the mines is as follows:

Total Moisture ( % )AR : 42 % -50%

Inherent Moisture (%) ADB : 15- 20 %

Ash ( %) ADB : 3 %- 4%

Total Sulphur (%) ADB : 0.2 %- 0.3 %

Volatile Matter (%)ADB : 40 %-45 %

Fixed Carbon (%)ADB : 35%-40%

Gross Calorific Value ( Kcal/Kg)ADB : 4800-5400

HGI ( Index Point) : 45- 62

It is proposed to bring down the total moisture content of above coal to less than 10% through suitable drying system by processing of around 400 to 600 MT/hr of coal .The drying of coal should result in corresponding increase in the calorific value of the coal without loosing any volatile matter. The system should be safe and not have any risk of coal catching fire.

We need list of agencies for the technology and detailed engineering for this project at Indonessia with proven records of such work at commercial scale.

Dear Mr. Agrawal,

NLI Products is an Norwegian company who do engineering and fabrication of indirect steam dryer systems. (trade name; Multicoil) Today our company deliver dryer systems to the chemical and mineral marked, e.g. a dryer package for copper concentrate, capacity 160 MT/hr. ( 2 dryer units in parallell)

Also we have recently tested drying of lignite with promising results.

Regarding the fire and explosion risk, our system can be connected to a inert gas system or explosion relief / suppression devices. Normally the explosion risk is neglible due to a low oxygen level in the off-gas system, also without nitrogen purging

To be able to give you information of a Multicoil dryer system size for your application, please send;

- Specific heat coeff. for coal

- Product inlet temp.

- % of water in coal to be to be evaporated ( from 45 to 10% ? )

- Particle size distribution

More info about our drying technology can be send by separate e-mails.

Best Regards
