Stacker Tripper

Posted in: , on 4. Dec. 2007 - 11:06

Dear All,

I have a doubt in angle of inclination of tripper in a stacker. Maximum angle of inclination of triper or conveyor for Iron ore pellet is 13-15 degree as specified in CEMA... I found in one korean design the angle they have taken is 11 degree for 13 meter horizontal distance at the tripper tail end and 16 degree for the rest 40 meters (upto tripper head pulley at 19m elevation). My doubt is about the roll back of material when the conveyor is stopped?...... What is the safe angle of inclination for stacker tripper for Coal, Iron ore pellets, Lime Stone, Dolomite & Coke.

Dear Mr. Kirubasankar,

For pellet you have to limit the angle upto 12 deg. But for caol you can go upto 15 deg for 40M length. But you have not indicated the size of coal, coke etc..

Size Of Material Handled

Dear Mr. A.Banerjee,

Kindly consider sizeas

6-20 mm ( Iron Ore)

6-40 mm ( Coal)

and also please read my question once again, One reputed Korean Company has given 16 Deg and 11 Deg ( Belt Width 18000 mm)as stated in my question for same size.

Whether Belt width and material in belt matters...............

Thanks and Regards,

G. Kiruba Sankar

Yes it does matter- the lower the angle of incline the lower the potential for spillage prior to the head pulley and chutes of the tripper as there is a large area of conveyor belt that is unsupported by troughing idlers due to the design of a tripper mechanism.

The reason that the tripper inclination is stepped is purely to prevent lifting of the empty belt. any text or conveyor design manual will confirm this.

Belt width affects the unit mass of the belt and the material load largely determines the critical tension of the vertical curve. so yes they are important but not for the reasons being discussed herein.

Dear Mr. Kiruba Sankar,

My latest practical experiance in my present project for a travelling barge loader tripper for 4500 TPH coal, Lump size 50mm, belt speed 4.5 M/sec and Belt width 1800 mm. The tripper inclination is 16 Deg and lenght is 40m.

Thanks & Regards

Hello,

I visited your plant few times in the past decade. Probably you are already handling iron ore pellets in stockyard, by conveyors and by Contiwell type conveyors-elevators. So you are familiar with the behaviour of the concerned iron ore pellets.

The conveyor allowable inclination is same whether inclination is part of stationary conveyor or tripper or stacker. So you may adopt the inclination as per your experience.

The material roll back tendency will be during starting of the conveyor. It is like passenger tending to lean backward when bus or car starts suddenly. The material will have less tendency to roll back during stoppage and actually it will have a tendency to move forward like application of brake in bus or car.

Iron Ore Pellets Loading

You will probably experience problems loading iron ore pellets onto a belt at 11 degrees and you will have roll back problems with iron ore pellets at 16 degrees when disturbed. How heavily loaded is your belt %CEMA?

You need to keep the speed low and the %loaded low if the angles proposed have any chance of working.
