In my experience, you will not get a slew bearing with a 4-6 week delivery. I am usually quoted anything from 20 to 50 weeks.

At that point I ask the manufacturers if they have any bearings in stock which were ordered, manufactured and not sold. They can usually come up with a list of a few different sizes which you can get right away for a good price. BUT you must be flexible in your design. Try Avon bearings in the USA or LYC in China. (I assume you have already tried SKF & INA)

The other thing I have done is to go to a heavy equipment dealer and look at the slewing bearings on large excavators. The manufacturers of these machines can usually get a replacement part in a few weeks. One time we bought the whole deck of an excavator & built a small slewing stacker on top of it to save time. ■

You're asking for 4 - 6 weeks delivery & then you'll finalise your design. How are you expecting to load the vertical borer or have you booked it on spec.?

Does your delivery window include shipping, raising letter of credit, clearances etc?

Like JD, I think you will have to buy a geared ring from a manufacturer who holds crane or digger spares. That's the most likley source of ex-stock rings. Offshore chandlers abound in Singapore & Dubai & both have excellent air freight resources.

The trouble with buying surplus machinery is that the documentation required by Consultants, Authorised Inspectors & their ilk, is already addressed to the original buyer which is often extremely commercially sensitive. It often happens that the documentation preared for the original customer is inadequate for the new destination. It might take longer than 6 weeks to prepare certified tanslations. ■
