DEM Solutions is a global leader in discrete element modeling software, the latest advance in Computer Aided Engineering that allows engineers to simulate particulate solids handling and processing operations.

Our EDEM software is used for simulation, analysis and visualization of particulate flows providing high-resolution information on particle kinematics, momentum, heat and mass transfer. EDEM brings the power of discrete element modeling to engineers on desktop computers.

EDEM is now being used in many industries involving the handling and processing of bulk solids including minerals & metals processing, mining, pharmaceutical and chemical manufacture, oil and gas transportation construction materials and agricultural machinery.

An example of an industry benefiting from use of EDEM simulation is the manufacturers and operators of quarrying and asphalt plant. Throughout the process, from crushing of the base rock, screening of aggregates, and conveying, mixing and coating of aggregates with asphalt liquor, efficient handling and avoidance of problems leading to significant downtime are critical. EDEM software is used to predict material flow in conveyors, chutes, hoppers, mixers as well as the forces of particles impacting equipment components. With this information engineers can identify likely problem points such as excessive wear of belts, overloading of conveyors and chutes, the probability of blockages and degree of mixing and segregation. The relative affect of sizing, shape and positioning of component parts such as chutes, conveyor belts, guide vanes and mixing baffles can be assessed in advance of, or often instead of, building and testing physical prototypes. This information is valuable in minimizing operational problems, extending equipment life and reducing downtimes.

With seamless CAD import and fast model set-up, the EDEM package has been designed to enable multiple scenarios to be quickly configured and solved so that engineers can modify equipment design and configurations and test the effect of changes to material properties and flow rates.

EDEM can be used in-house in conjunction with existing CAE tools, or our experienced consultancy team can work with you to help you understand your system at the particle scale.

DEM Solutions’ corporate headquarters are located in Edinburgh, UK with offices in Lebanon, NH, USA and distributors arpund the world.
