Outotec Oyj has agreed with OAO TNK Kazchrome to design and deliver the second chromite pellet plant for Kazchrome's Donskoy chrome mine in Kazakhstan. The new pellet plant, together with Outotec's earlier delivery of a similar plant in 2005, will be the world's largest production unit for chromite pellets. The contract price with services and spare parts is nearly EUR 40 million.

Outotec's delivery includes the SBS(TM) Steel Belt Sintering technology, engineering, the main process equipment, automation and electrification, as well as the supervision of equipment installations and commissioning. The new production plant is expected to become operational in mid-2009.

Kazchrome is one of the world's largest manufacturers of chromite ore, chrome- and manganese-based ferroalloys. With the second pellet plant the production capacity at Donskoy will double to 1,400,000 tonnes per year of chromite pellets.

"Outotec's energy-efficient ferroalloys production technology is successfully and increasingly used by the major ferrochrome producers worldwide. Kazakhstan is rich in mineral resources, which are being developed fast. After this contract Kazakhstan is the second largest market after South Africa for our ferroalloys technologies", says Tapani Järvinen, President and CEO of Outotec.
