•My client has an immediate opportunity for a seasoned Project estimating professional

•This position will be based at the corporate headquarters in the Aurora, IL area and requires one to two nights per month of overnight travel to customer sites.

Primary Functions

•This position coordinates the efforts of proposal development and pricing for customer requests. On occasion, the Manager of Estimating visits Coal Burning Utility Power Plants to obtain data to prepare high quality estimates and determine technical details to meet customer requirements.

•Performs analyses of customer specifications for material handling systems (conveying, crushers, belts and steel) to determine the component cost estimates associated with each design.

•This position develops comprehensive cost proposals for projects requiring the company’s technologies and services. These proposals include design, fabrication, installation costs, pricing and preliminary schedules.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

-Extracts the essential information from various applications engineers so that they develop financially and technically sound proposals that meet profit targets.

-Tracks and organizes all data related to generating costs for the company’s products. This can include past proposals, past project, system component costs, purchased component costs, labor and other.

-Identifies customer problem or task to be accomplished; reviews specifications and determines specific components that are required to accomplish the task.

-Prepares estimates and is required to meet budget constraints. Reviews and helps develop system designs and engineering configuration details to meet requirements.

-Develops estimating procedures and methods to improve productivity, accuracy and turnaround of proposals.

-Coordinates product proposals, including text, pricing, preliminary design details and drawings. Conducts a review on all proposals generated by a team of three application engineers.

-Researches new components to incorporate into system designs

-Periodically monitors in-field testing of new systems

-Performs additional projects and activities as may from time to time be required

Requirements

Batchelor’s degree (BSME, BSCE or BSMET) is preferred.

The various “disciplines” or experience of the ideal candidate includes;

Knowledge of Transfer Chute designs and functionality

Knowledge of fluid pumping systems

Experience in steel fabrication and forming and associated cost structures

Experience and application of conveying industry work including; belt scrapers, idlers, skirt rubber and seals

Knowledge of steel building construction and the balance of the plant such as drainage, electrical systems, foundations and MCC’s

Minimal Requirements

-5 years minimum experience in application engineering with material handling systems with a minimum of three years of direct supervision of an estimating organization or department.

-Ability to travel to customer sites (10%)

-Ability to climb ladders and stairs; working in tight quarters

-Ability to drive a motor vehicle

Desired Skill Set

Prior experience as a first line supervisor of technical professionals

Knowledge of coal and how it is used in an electrical power plant

High PC proficiency with MS access, Word and Excel

Prior experience on complex long cycle sales proposals

Effective persuasive skills and listening skills is required

Experience with RS Means estimated software is preferred

Because of this visibility candidates should be able to interact with internal and external customers very effectively. Candidates with this knowledge who are working in the aggregates processing industry or are employed in the construction engineering industry have transferable skills and should apply.

Base pay ranges from $80,000 to $105,000 with an annual incentive program
