MacGREGOR Bulk boosted by orders for self-unloading systems

MacGREGOR Bulk (formerly BMH Marine) continues to maintain its leading position in the self-unloading bulk carrier equipment market

The MacGREGOR Group – part of the Cargotec Corporation – continues to secure a steady stream of orders for bulk carrier self-unloading systems from its MacGREGOR Bulk division. Orders received so far in 2007 include:

Delivery of a Nordströms cement handling system to be installed on a 4,000 dwt vessel being built at ABG Shipyard in India for Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd. In 2001, two identical 4,000 dwt self-unloading cement carriers were delivered to the same owner. These vessels are in operation transporting cement between terminals on the Indian West Coast. The new order includes an identical system, based on mechanical loading at a rated capacity of 700 tonnes/hour and unloading at a rated capacity of 675 tonnes/hour. The equipment is due for delivery in September this year.

An order for a self-unloading Cargo Scooper conveyor system to be installed on a 40,000 dwt bulk carrier. The Cargo Scooper system uses reclaiming scraper conveyors installed in each of the four cargo holds, which feed into bucket elevators. The bucket elevators lift the cargo on to a longitudinal belt conveyor, located in an enclosed tunnel above deck, which transports the cargo to a slewable and hoistable boom conveyor installed in the ship’s bow.

The boom conveyor will discharge gypsum or similar cargo into shore-based receiving hoppers or similar, at a capacity of 2,000 tonnes/hour. Unloading is fully automatic and the system is scheduled for commercial operation in mid-2008.

SMT Shipmanagement, Poland, placed an order for a Nordströms self-unloading system for a conversion project. The equipment is planned for delivery in mid-2007 and work will be carried out at Chengxi Shipyard in China.

This is the second contract for SMT. The first vessel, the 23,000 dwt Somerset, is in operation transporting cement between the US East Coast and Colombia. The rated capacity of the Nordströms equipment is 1,000 tonnes/hour for mechanical loading and 2 x 300 tonnes/hour for pneumatic unloading.

Five orders have been received for Nordströms bulk handling systems for offshore supply vessels for delivery to Europe, Asia and the Middle East, bringing the total orderbook for anchor-handling tug/supply vessels up to 25 shipsets of equipment. Six systems have been delivered since the introduction of this product in 2005, and the equipment includes bulk tanks, maintenance-free valves, pollution-free venting, compressors, and a control panel.

A repeat contract from KC Maritime Ltd for the conversion of an 18,000 dwt bulker to a self-unloading cement carrier. The cement-handling system will be a mechanical type with vertical and horizontal screw conveyors, and will be similar to those installed on two earlier vessels for this customer: Darya Shaan and Darya Jaan. The system will be prepared for pneumatic unloading.
