Bulk and unitized raw material handling has been a subject of great significance for the designers of various industrial plants. Advances in this field have been rapid and significant with development of new technologies including energy optimization and environmentally friendly transportation of raw materials besides enhanced mechanization, automation and operational control.

Considering the importance of this subject, MECON in association with SAIL [R&D], CET and IIM, Ranchi chapter is organizing a Conference on "Bulk International 2007" at Ranchi during 10th & 11th February 2007. The conference will also have added features such as "Technical Exhibition" and "Exclusive Manufacturers' Presentation Sessions".

All the iron ore and coal requirement of power plants and steel plants are dispatched from this region. It was the head quarter of Steel Authority of India, a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Steel who are running five large integrated steel plants in India i.e. Durgapur Steel Plant [DSP], Bokaro Steel Ltd. [BSL], Rourkela Steel Plant [RSP], Bhilai Steel Plant [BSP] and Indian Iron & Steel Co. [IISCO]. Ranchi is the head quarter of Central Coal Ltd., a public sector coal company. Ranchi is the head quarter of MECON Ltd. It is public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India.
