Dears,

we as a duct designer, need to design a duct for an arc funace.the flow rate for suction is 650,000m3/hr and it should be maximized to about 1,000,000m3/hr. As you know for this rate(650,000 to 1,000,000)the velocity in duct depending on the diameter of the duct will be changed.I should inform that we have about 70m horizontal dut at the top of the saker.

please inform me about the acceptable range for the velocity for this type

First: this a bulk solids handling forum.

Second: are you a duct designer or not?

Clearly not as he's asking this forum how to do it ....

Duct Design For Dust Collection

Erstellt am 29. Oct. 2006 - 08:03

Dears,

we, as a designer and manufacturer of dedusting systems, would like to design ducts. I hesitate about the velocity for raw gas duct(minimum and maximum) if it is horizontal.

our system specification:

flow rate:700,000 m3/hr(operation) - 1,000,000 m3/hr(max.)

temperature: max. 100 deg. C

dust load: 50 g/m3

duct horizontal length: 70m

dust property: moderately abrasive

is there any limitation for the maximum diameter of duct?

we would be pleased if you inform us about your suggestion for the gas velocity or duct diameter or other references.

Best regards

Acceptalbe velocities for carrying arc furnace dust 3000 - 5000 fpm. Since the duct dia will be fixed and the temperature will vary try to design such that at the higher temperature you don't exceed 5000 fpm. Abrasion becomes a big factor for duct wear.
